Everyone on that DS thread seem to be forgetting this one used during Christmas 2004 & 2005 which was a modified version of the worldwide advert, using the 'Holidays are coming' music instead of 'White Christmas' (as well as a few shots from the 1995 version)
The year before this, they were using a Christmas version of the polar bear adverts like everyone else.
Hmm, yes, I recall 2006 on here when Coca Cola dropped the trucks and people were annoyed. Was that the year they put their Christmas Eve ad slot out to a public vote for a former advert (I think the Polar Bears were also an option, not sure what else)? Might have been 2007, though? Anyway, from the year after, they have run both the trucks ad and the international campaign in different parts of the season (trucks earlier on, then the international campaign later).
Was the version posted above the only sight we saw of the trucks in 2004/5 (i.e. was the other ad not run alongside it?)?
It's all very interesting all this discussion about Coca-Cola Christmas ads, but this thread is about Christmas presentation isn't it? On that particular subject, what is the verdict of this year's Christmas 24 idents?
It's definitely not just the UK who made a tradition of it! Germany and Austria went as far to record full vocal versions of the track, Germany's with Melanie Thornton ('Wonderful Dream') and Austria's with Tamee Harrison ('Beautiful Time'), both using the original ad soundtrack as a basis with new vocals over the top. Both ads were aired well into the 2000s, Germany as a tribute to Thornton after her death in 2001 - Wikipedia claims they still air it today but I haven't found any proof for that on youtube.
Make up your own mind if they're better than the original and thank the lucky stars we don't have a Jessie J version or something.
