Why don't they get a new transparent desk and put the computers underneath? Laptops don't tend to be found on news desks anymore.
Because a new desk would be too expensive and an unnecessary expense, when there's nothing wrong with the old one. They can't just magic up a desk.
Well, the fact that they still have to have laptops just makes the studio look older and scruffier. They won't pull in the viewers unless they've got a decent studio.

Seriously? I thought news content was key here, not if a studio has an old laptop?

Don't talk rubbish. They didn't have laptops in 2004 because they were relatively expensive back then. Not to mention the fact that social media wasn't really around.
There's a laptop! They've obviously raised the desk at some point too as that's more like a coffee table.
Other than that it's unbelievable to think that they've still got the same set now. Surely ITV must think 10 years in the same set is a bit excessive? I know Central are not planning to move like the other regions who've had new sets so they must have plans to refresh the remaining sets in the not too distant future?

But this
is
a decent studio. It's not a great studio (read: set), and it's long in the tooth, but I think by anyone's standard it's still fit for purpose. If it wasn't it would have been long replaced by now. If there was a choice between maintaining the quality of the bulletin and a shiny new set, I think I know which choice I'd go for.

Laptops were no more expensive in 2004 than they are today.
And where does social media come into it? Laptops in news studios aren't there to let the presenter check their twitbook profile during reports.

The point I was trying to make was that that social media wasn't around then, having some sort of computer at the desk would be handy. I know they're not there for that reason.

Well, you
CERTAINLY
were
NOT
expressing your point clearly enough!

You still haven't answered how social media comes into it.
Interestingly for some reason this weekend we've had Matt on Saturday and Bob on today. Odd to see the main hosts on a weekend, can't remember the last time Bob done a weekend.

I know ITV Central are looking for a new Newsreader as I saw the advert the other day...might be something to do with this?
