Well they look an awful lot better than the "glass" graphics introduced this year.

Although I'm a Rugby Union fan, I must admit it was a nice touch for the Barry Davies game to have those 1970's graphics, which actually looked superb. One screen grab not shown here was that for replays after a goal was scored, the "BBCtv Match of the Day Action Replay" caption was shown on screen.

Now, you never know, if enough people say the graphics were superb, the Beeb may keep them for all events........

it was mentioned in the brilliant documentary on Friday.

Was it brilliant ? I lasted about 15 mins before switching off, and WTF was Russell Brand doing on it ?

Also - apologies if already mentioned - the first ever MOTD is currently being repeated on Red Button, looks like it is on again at 0100 tonight.

What I found interesting from a pres point of view is the end credits stating "Presented by Alan Chivers", to credit the producer.

I'm guessing your objection is more down to not being a fan of Russell Brand, rather than dislike of the idea that a popular comedian and football fan of the current time who has also been on the show was interviewed. To be honest it was probably recorded at the same time he made his appearance and a lot of this documentary seemed to be done on the cheap, a lot of reused interviews and why was Tinchy Strider interviews on a footpath against a brick wall?

Thought that MOTD rap made for pretty awful television though. You'll be pleased to know the audio quality below is pretty poor.

I can assure you they won't. Those replay caps were added to my post a few minutes after the initial posting by the way.

So the usual stuff then, 'slebs pretending to remember classic moments (even ones that occurred before they were born) cobbled together by an age 20-something production team ?

Presumably, no mention on how the technology has changed, from three or four cameras 50 years
ago, to 12-20 multicamera shoots today. No proper replay tech 50 years ago, EVSs all over the place today,
covering multiple angles. Having to edit by physically cutting and splicing the video tape until the late 70s,
now all done with the click of a mouse ?

No mention of the kerfuffle late 70s, when ITV snatched the rights, and MOTD ended up being shown on Sunday afternoons ?

I've got the show recorded on my PVR, shall I just hit delete, or will I be pleasantly surprised if I watch the remaining 45 mins ?

BTW: No, I can't abide Russell Brand

Are you suggesting they should only make TV for people who work in TV or are TV anoraks?

You may have hit on something there actually... anyone willing to finance my new idea 'The Anorak Channel'? Wink

No, I'm not at all, but technical developments have greatly influenced the production and 'look' of the programme over the last 50 years, and the so called ' Snatch of The Day' event in the 70s, dominated the news, and was front page news for two or three days, but you consider that 'anaoraky' ? I'm not suggesting either should have occupied more than 4 or 5 minutes of the programme, but they should have been mentioned (I assume they weren't ?)

Snatch of the Day certainly was and ITV's 00s highlights programme.

They seem to have done the Des Lynam interviews for that documentary, the BBC Two at 50 documentary and the Alan Hansen documentary all at the same time. Plus the David Attenborough interviews were from the BBC Two at 50 documentary. Plus, of course, the interviews from 2004 that were credited as such, although that was largely because those people featured had either died since then or been taken ill.

Des himself didn't seem too well, which was sad to see.
