Why does the TV "logo" thing on the main page for this forum only show BBC idents?

It doesn't. It randomly select an image which has a sequence of images within. It just so happens that it's only displaying the BBC one to you.

I'm not sure why there's a need specifically for a UKTV one, they're hardly pioneers of the broadcasting world. A Sky one would be appreciated, with Sky One, Sky Movies, Sky News etc.

i don't see anything wrong with putting my life on hold until the real reason behind tvforum using an image depicting a television with an obsolete aspect ratio.

i think its wholly irresponsible and downright lazy of asa not to address this issue. i shall be writing to his mother.

Well its meant to depict a portable tv isn't it, and when was the last time you saw one of those in widescreen? !
