I'm deluded? I'm not ranting on about something that's 7 years out of date...

Actually yeah I have watched it, and I frequently tune into it. Oh yeah cause that will work giving it to someone else...have you seen London Live? Cause yeah, that's a brilliant channel isn't it...Duhhh...

So because London Live is bad all others will be too (apart from STV of course)....get a grip mate....your deluded.

Other areas aren't relevant. The regulator will have made the decision to some extent on viability and to some extent on what commitments to programming were made. On those fronts STV must have come up as the number 1 choice. It's was about creating local television not about extending the choice of media providers.

Will the STV Edinburgh channel broadcast in the west Lothian region, or just the city and the outskirts?

Had the Glasgow and Edinburgh channels not gone to STV I think they would have been off the air by the end of the year.

STV is trumpeting the fact that their main show got a peak audience of 29,000 viewers on its first night. That shows what scraps are being fought for.

STV is producing a good service while keeping things (hopefully) within a certain budget. The quid pro quo for them is that, by doing so, it stops another entrant coming in and challenging them for advertising. As a result the viewers get an extra local service of good quality which is actually viable.

Have ratings been released for the other local channels other than London Live.

The power of the mother brand is why STV Glasgow and Edinburgh have the best chance of success - promo and news facilities should see them cut above the others. In hindsight it's how the ITV network should have been reorganised back when digital TV began - a condition of ITV having one mux should have been that one of their new channels should be regional, if not locally focused.

I'm guessing ITV showed no interest in any of the local franchises - have UTV bid for any in Northern Ireland (if they've even been put out to tender?)

I think London Live and STV Glasgow are the only ones in BARB at the moment, but I think the plan is for the network as a whole to present figures in the end.

The licence for Belfast went to Northern Visions, a community operation which previously had one of the local analogue Channel 6 licences. Made TV is where where the other did came from.

Northern Visions is part of the Irish Community Television Association. The other two channels Dublin and Cork Community TV operate on cable in their respective areas.

Whats STV Glasgow's weekend schedule? I can't seem to find a schedule on their website. A lot less news than weekdays I guess?

I guess the news is repeats of the 5 weekday bulletins?

Omnipresent
I was in Nottingham this weekend and was able to see Notts TV for the first time.

I watched a couple of the channel's 15 minute weekend news bulletins. The bulletin was made up of a couple of short headlines from the day (an award for a local charity, an employment fair for apprecentices etc) and repeats of reports from earlier in the week (which were signed as such). The bulletin closed with some sport headlines and a static slide for the weather.

The presentation was professional and the report packages were good - certainly up there with what you'd expect from a BBC/ITV regional bulletin. As could probably infer from the stories mentioned above, there wasn't much by the way of "hard" news.

I've also seen some clips from other programmes (Working Week, Nottingham Now And Then) but didn't see them in their entirety. A couple of observations that there was a noticable difference in the picture quality for one report for Working Week and the reliance on vox pops was a bit excessive. One vox pop with a husband and wife would have benefit from a retake as the wife wasn't paying attention!

Overall, I'd say a solid start but as is the case for all local TV channels, maintaining content that is not only relevant but also very engaging will be the challenge.
