What is Gordon Brewer going to be doing now that Newsnight Scotland is finishing?

Could he return to the main programme?

I would be surprised if he retuned to London - partly because I don't think he is very good, but mainly because I can't see people moving to network in the referendum year. More likely to be used as general cover on Radio Scotland and some reporting, if he stays with the BBC. That's obviously not guaranteed though!

As long as it's not Eddie Mair, I don't mind. Maybe they'll rebrand it as "The Nightly Politics" if so?

To be Honest I doubt they'll have a new main presenter on the team, I'd be perfectly fine if they just had Emily, Laura and Kirsty.

If they do hire a new presenter my personal preference would be Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

There's only two people who can build a large newsnight audience - Neil and Mair. I would love to see Eddie get the role, but of course that divisiveness is key - Paxman is loathed as much as loved. Looking forward to tonight though ...

I note that Victoria Derbyshire was described as "Britain's best analytical interviewer" on The Media Show this afternoon. She is leaving 5 Live "to move to a significant new role in BBC News to be announced shortly".

Sounds like she might be moving to Newsnight permanently.
