James Cridland on Media UK appears to have found a possible Ofcom breach regarding the use of visual branding during Wake Up London.

It appears London Live are following the Skype Broadcast Terms of Service without taking into account the line "except where prohibited by law".

It's a definite breach, going by a ruling in 2011:

The BBC, of course, has its own guidelines:

Shocked OMG. This whole Skype logo thing is incredible on so many levels.

By the way, I think its a cool way to broadcast. Quick, fast, cheap, down and dirty and FIRST. Too bad they arent committed to breaking news across LONDON. They could really stand out from the pack. Oh Well....

If London Live are found in breach, this could cause issues if they can't find another video conferencing provider who can provide the same quality as Skype.

I can't see how using the Skype logo is any worse than using the Twitter or Facebook logos which are now common place on pretty much every live TV show. I don't agree with it, but they can't have one rule for one and one for the rest.

The watermark is just an option in the settings that can be turned off and they can just remove the Skype logo from that 'via' graphic (and the 'Via Skype' text if neccessary)

Then they'll be in breach of Skype's Broadcast ToS as Billy posted earlier.

Firstly, that is a news programme. Secondly, it has to be editorially justified - I think someone could justify mentioning Facebook and Twittter if that's how they want people to get in contact. As people aren't getting in contact with London Live via Skype, the only reason to mention it is to indicate a potentially lower quality stream.

Showing the logo like they have been doing is clearly prohibited by law.

I know, I was just saying there's no need to use a completely different VoIP provider if they are found to be in breach as the logo is optional.

Wake Up London had Alex Beard presenting with Marc on weather and travel. A marked improvement.

I notice that the Standard had a page advert for London Live's current affairs shows.

The blurb described LL as a "news and entertainment channel" - a change of emphasis?

It looks like a slight change in direction post Stefano Hatfield, yet it also says "brings you the latest news and stories with a twist" which doesn't suggest a sudden change in the editorial agenda, so it looks like we're still going to get the padded out debates at lunch and the dire Not the One Show in peak.

I really hope Vanessa Baffoe will stick at being a VJ instead of the travel and weather presenter, although the advert still has her in front of the touch screens.
