Yep - all goes to show what London Live could achieve, if not right away, then further down the line.

They also have the huge advantage of virtually unlimited cross-promotion in the Standard, which gets read by vast numbers of Londoners each night - so, if their programmes are good enough, they've got everything in place to get them onto the radar of people who are interested in local news.

I think radio wouldnt go amiss. Some tv stations here have partnered with some radio stations to take over their news updates. So the update is given on the radio and branded with the tv station branding and the news is an anchor live from the tv station newsroom. London has a plenty of radio stations that would probably be happy to outsource their news departments and save some cash. LL should look into that type of cross promotion.

Ha ! The only London local radio stations with any resemblance of proper news gathering capability are BBC London, and LBC. The latter is part of a larger national group, Global Radio that owns some of the other London stations (along with local stations in other UK cities, and a national classical music network)

None of them, (except LBC) are duty bound by the regulator to provide any sort of detailed local news,
so they won't be interested unless there's a cost/benefit advantage.
BBC (Radio) London (which is closely tied already to BBC 1's local London TV news programme) is of course PSB.

This is a good indicator of how the editorial agenda of Not the One Show will be, using puppets with regards to the LBC Europe debate.

I'm sure as part of LL's bid, they'd do headlines on the hour, but there's been no mention of this as part of the pre-launch info.

From Roy Greenslade's Guardian piece the other day:
Quote:
These 30-something news anchors will be fronting three major news programmes - morning, lunchtime and evening - plus reading half-hourly bulletins throughout the day.

They've already said that their programming will reflect when the Standard's first edition of the day is released, although what they will do on a Sunday is anyones guess.

No they certainly won't, I really don't think we are destined to have 'city TV' in the UK, a shame, but there
you go, at least we do all other forms of TV very well.

I couldn't agree more - that's certainly how it works in the US. Here's a blog I wrote on this very subject a couple of weeks ago, drawing comparisons between London Live and Los Angeles station KTLA...

http://markmoulding.wordpress.com/2014/03/09/why-london-live-can-be-the-best-news-in-town/

Nice article. KTLA is owned by Chicago Tribune. And the flagship channel is WGN 9, They also own WPIX 11 NYC. They recently became the largest station owner in the US. But similar to KTLA, WGN Morning News operates in the same vein. Its not affiliated with a major network. Its operates as CW affiliate but the CW branding, like KTLA is not emphasized. WGN Morning News consistently ranks among the highest in competitive morning news market and it successfully sets up the station for high viewership by the 25-54 demo of its other newscasts.

Like KTLA MN, WGN MN has a engaging presenters and reporters that can swing between the serious stories and breaking news to the light-hearted funny moments.

Cringe, sound effects during the news, regardless of it being a light-hearted segment. Let's pray to Christ LL don't go down that route. Oh they probably already have.

After reading their news commitments in the standard - I think it's fair to say this thread is in the wrong section of the forum.

Tonight's Standard shows the area where the weather and travel will come from. They're not linking to the interview with LL's technical director, but the main points are:

Two touchscreen monitors for the travel and weather presented by former ITV Tyne Tees & Border VJ Vanessa Bafoe.
Nikon D8's for the studio.
News studio based in the Standard Newsroom
General studio for the non-news output.

Sunday's current affairs output is basically a documentary strand called 'Platform 8' which includes a pre-recorded debate afterwards.

Yes and I hope that isn't the finished article. The wires trailing out of the side of the monitor and finish on the monitor wall looked crap.
