As far as I'm aware no system (TV based, IP is different) in the UK actually transmits in progressive, all systems interlace for transmission.
But yes DSLRs are not built for live output the issue used to be overheating sensors, I presume the D800 doesn't have this issue?
Edit: I also notice from some of the videos posted earlier in the thread, poorly framed iphone footage and wrongly white balanced dslr interview, should look great come launch...!

Unless the overheating causes the camera to turn off, it shouldn't be a (visible) issue.

The 7pm entertainment/news programme again will probably blend the two in a One Show style format of pre-recorded packages.
My bet is the talk to package ratio will be higher (chat is a lot cheaper than packaging), and that the production values and content will be very different to The One Show.
Agreed. There's a little more information about the 6.30pm showbiz programme, which will feature a panel, some who'll be using Skype. It also appears this programme will use the news presenters on rotation.

Yes and no, heat increases the view-ability of any dead pixels (and no sensor is perfect) it also shortens the lifespan of the sensor itself, it is designed after-all to take 1 single frame , not 25 of them, continuously. But, the sheer resolution of the sensor being scaled down to HD will help hide most issues, I suppose "technically" there isn't anything wrong with the idea. I don't like it though

Sky seems to be showing live rehearsals. Caught the last few minutes of Headline London. It was pretty poor. The set reminds me of an empty shop unit. (think New Look without any stock!)

Yeah, I did mean in terms of the recording issues overheating often causes (which of course is all bypassed when used live), rather than the picture quality issues that overheating causes.
Unless the cameras are being routinely used for stills photography, it does seem like a waste of money for the "cool" effect - they could get much better dedicated video cameras for less money.

Sorry, let me clarify. I know all transmission is interlaced, but obviously you can show progressive content within that and it will look progressive.
That's what I meant about this

In which case it's being done all the time already and you probably just don't notice
Pretty much everything I shoot is in 25p for the BBC, or other broadcasters (bar POV which is the only 50i thing I can think of off the top of my head)

Plenty of national ads going out on the Sky feed - although it appears to be stuck in a time warp as plenty of old Christmas adverts are included. Unless London Live gets the honour of being the first to air this year's Christmas ads. I wonder when they will introduce their Christmas idents?
