In addition, the evening newscasts have had the best November ratings, but have lost more younger viewers:

And, Rob Nelson, ABC News correspondent and former host of the overnight show "World News Now" is to become the new weekend morning anchor at WABC, replacing Phil Lipoff who is heading to WCVB Boston:

Today's anchor team must surely be growing at a faster rate than its viewership?

Tamron Hall is becoming the fourth co-host of the 9am hour, Today's Take, joining Al Roker, Natalie Morales and Willie Geist.

It’s Official: Tamron Hall Joins ‘Today’ as 9 a.m. Co-Host

That means that the 'family' now features nine presenters - and that excludes the weekend team and any other fill-ins. Which can make for some crowded television, as seen in this video. Unless they're adding these presenters (Hall, Daly and Geist before her) because they are specifically grooming them for the imminent departure of multiple 'core' anchors (main 7am co-hosts and/or news anchor) this policy seems ridiculous.

I'm really not seeing what Carson Daly brings to the table, either. Hall is far superior to Daly in the still-somewhat-pointless Orange Room, and Geist makes a far better co-host than Daly. Daly's on assignment so much anyway he feels like a guest host or fill-in when he does turn up - Tamron presented the Orange Room for the vast majority of November and December, for example, and former First Daughter Jenna Bush Hager has just come off three or four weeks hosting it around the Olympics.

And the more screentime that's handed over to the news anchor, meteorologist and Orange Room anchor, the less the programme even needs two main co-hosts. I'm sure that's part of the strategy - diminishing Matt's role so that even if you can't stand him, there are three-to-eight others you might like. But it completely dilutes, in my opinion, any sense of that 'family' they're striving to create. Are you really closer to the people at a ten-person family get-together than you are your parents and two siblings?

‘GMA’ expands studio, adds ‘Social Square’

http://www.newscaststudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/socialsquare_gma-594x418.jpg

In the cutthroat world of morning TV, when one competitor “innovates” the others must follow. Such is the case with the “Social Square,” which debuted Monday on “Good Morning America.”

Social media isn’t exactly a new concept, but the morning shows are making a big deal of it in hopes to gain more viewers.

The “Social Square” is a better designed knockoff of the “Orange Room,” which debuted last fall on “Today.”

“This will revolutionize how our show is produced in the morning and its all about engaging directly with our viewers from beginning to end,” said “GMA”‘s Senior Executive Producer Tom Cibrowski.

The new studio space hopes to engage with fans, guests and hosts… though I doubt George Stephanopoulos will ever play foosball.

A ribbon LED works its way around the header with multiple touchscreen monitors. Pops of color break up the space and the stone walls. Lighting is similar to the “Orange Room,” clearly showing it’s not meant to be a full time television area.

The space is an expansion of the existing ground floor Times Square studio and matches the overall design of the “GMA” set by Seth Easter Design.

Much better than Today's crappy Orange Room, GMA has been better than Today for a long time, the ratings and this is just more proof of that.

GMA's ratings have been good and CBS This Morning has gained new ground as of late by being the opposite of the other two rather than being a carbon-copy.

I see nbcnews.com has had a new look, a responsive design. IMO it's huge, with a lot of wasted space.

It's a shame it's not more like it's slightly more biased cousin, www.msnbc.com

Though I much prefer CBS News' www.cbsnews.com

Are you suggesting NBCNews.com is very left-leaning, or that MSNBC.com's only slightly left-leaning? Confused

I prefer CBS This Morning. NBC Today used to be good. Now its trying to copy GMA. GMA is too tabloidly and fluffy. Today used to be really hard news at the top and fluffy a few hours in. Now they both are too goofy for me. CBS This Morning is pitch perfect in the morning. Serious but not boring.

Savannah Guthrie got married over the weekend, and announced that she's four months pregnant.

After Getting Married Over the Weekend, Savannah Guthrie Announces Pregnancy

Let's see if Today try and milk this for ratings like GMA did with Robin Roberts and Amy Robachs' cancer treatments.

A ) NBC Studios Burbank was sold plans were made for all shows to relocate to Universal City (which started when NBC Built Conan's Tonight Show Studio which is now occupied by Chelsea Lately.)
B ) After Leno got his show back NBC realized that they won't build out a new set for Leno in Universal and they will keep him there. So the NBC News Bureau in Burbank stays along with their two stations KNBC and KVEA.
C ) KNBC and KVEA were supposed to take over Conans old Studio but in 2012 it was taken over by Chelsea Lately,.

During Jays second tenure they probably wanted to keep everything close by. But now that they know for sure that are going to be done with Burbank save for Access Hollywood. NBC decided to build a building for KNBC/KVEA and NBC News, Msnbc, cnbc.

The network origination points are collocated are: NYC with a NBCU Network Master Control in Englewood Cliffs at CNBC, WRC-TV in Washington DC, WTVJ-MIami and WSCV , in Dallas at KXAS, KNBC and if all else fails they have a backup running hot at Encompass Digital Media. So they have a lot of options.
