I swear that they have just elaborated on this!
The Mirror must get a thrill by making up rubbish about poor Daybreak.
Nicola Methven in fairness breaks all the Daybreak stuff and she is very well regarded. She obviously has a mole on the show or within ITV daytime. She broke the recent Eamonn stuff, the dropping of Adrian and Christine and that Lorraine was going to take over.
She is very careful in that article though. Could? is even in the title. I suspect ITV are still at the brainstorming stage and are drawing up a list of their ideal candidates.
Not even the most imaginative of tabloid journalists could surely invent a reason why Dermot would want to go from one of the most watched shows on ITV to one of the least.

Who said he couldn't do both? Excluding the Newshour, Daybreak doesn't do that much worse than This Morning which had both Philip and Holly. Daybreak's reach is definitely bigger.
Also he could be offered Eamonn Holmes/Philip style money£££. In his final years on GMTV Eamonn was getting 500k a year for a 3 day week with 3 full months of Summer Holidays!
I agree that they've just elaborated on Dermot covering for Phillip on This Morning, for four days only! His name may have been spoken about but this has to be pure speculation. Filming for the X Factor also takes up six months of the year so he'd only be any good if they wanted him for half of the year only. Maybe after his X Factor days he would go for something like breakfast TV.
Incidentally, Dermot does have a degree in politics and is more than qualified for the job, however.

Utter nonsense, outside of the judges houses which is wrapped in 2 weeks, the auditions and bootcamp are filmed over 12 days in total. He isn't a bloody runner on the show.
And its not li8ke her couldn't present the show from wherever he is, I mean if ITV were set on him being a presenter on This Morning then I'm sure they would put up a multi-camera setup at the location?
Just to add, Dermot done that Morning Glory thing on 4 a few years back. It wasnt really a breakfast show more of a chat show/music show. It was dire IMO, and so were the ratings.
It just ran alongside Big Brother's Little Breakfast during Celeb BB - was only 30 minutes and not much to it at all. Of course Dermot also turned down The Big Breakfast back in 2001 when Johnny Vaughan left having hosted The Bigger Breakfast and been a regular stand in for a year or two. This was before he'd even started on Little Brother, so a fairly big gig to turn down for a relative rookie back then.
I think if Dermot was ever to enter the world of breakfast broadcasting it would probably be on radio rather than TV - he'd be a good bet to replace Chris Evans should he quit within the next few years.
