There was usually at least one tree somewhere in the main TVC newsroom, wasn't there? And, IIRC, there used to be one in the newsroom behind N8, during the N24 era?

Which ISTR they had to move every night for the World similcasts, wonder how they'll handle that for the 5.

They might just change the background image to include a tree for the five.
More then likely. They'll then go and use the same image for the 9 and BBC London News.

Moving camera in studio at the TOTH at 19:00! Good to see it back! Fits with music better.

How long have there been new countdowns? Annita McVeigh (?) was in one I've just seen, and she wasn't in previous ones.

The countdowns have been updated with new footage, Annita I think has been in them for over a month IIRC, she was presenting coverage for the Royal baby during that footage.

I've also seen Gavin Esler now pop up in countdowns too at a recent film awards held in London a few months back!

Now we're in HD, the Corporation needs to examine it's webcam location cameras. 'Central London' nightscape looking grim in comparison with the sharpness of the studio camera.

Thanks to HD, I've noticed that the News at Five titles, if not all titles, change frame rate halfway through. It's very jarring.

Hopefully, HD will come as and when the regions prepare to go HD. Hasn't it been said that this is in the pipeline for next year?

Also, have any of the OBs (particularly the Nelson Mandela memorial coverage) been HD? I'd imagine it is a costly, albeit necessary, exercise to equip news teams around the world with HD equipment. Anyone know anything about this?

The Mandela Memorial, was a mix of Native HD from the SABC feed and some of the BBC unilaterals. Other BBC material was upscaled.

After watching those silly generic titles which don't feature the newsroom and have the long visual hold while the music catches up - again tonight on the 6 tonight, I thought i'd have a crack at seeing if the sequence could be improved.

All it needs is an additional globe frame, and whallah...

Here's the before for comparison...

It still suffers from the other (IMHO big) problem of these titles - too long.

The normal ones are fine at this duration because it's not 20s of a CGI globe swinging round the screen. I personally think they should go back to the pre-NBH [duration] titles when they opt not to use the live shots in the titles.
