^ I'd say the entertainment package is competing more with Netflix than their other packages so it needs to be a similar price to the £5.99 Netflix offers. Although presumably it'll go up to £9.99 or similar after this limited period is over.

A bit off topic but I very much recommend the £10 Now TV box. It's already got iPlayer and Demand 5 on it and according to a Q&A on DS 4oD will be on it by the end of the year. You don't need to subscribe to Now to access them but knowing Sky a software update will put change to that in the distant future (well aside from iPlayer).

That would be my advice too, I have a 2nd gen Apple TV box and a NOW TV box, although the Apple one is slick and efficient, you just cannot fault the NOW TV box, even if you only use it for iPlayer it's a bargain. I'm lucky enough to have been given several free day passes for Sky Sports, so I already had a NOW TV account without having to subscribe, but I don't mind paying the £4.99 as having Sky for me personally isn't cost effective, but I don't mind paying £4.99 as I know it's those types of Sky channels I watch.

Although it is worth noting that if you do subscribe to it you don't get shows like The Simpsons, due to rights issues. Mad

It has the iPlayer but does it have the BBC connected TV app? Looking to replace one of our TVs before it electrocutes me and looking at some Smart TV options which I only really want for BBC Sport, but just can't find the info anywhere on what models actually have it.

No it doesn't have Connected Red Button, closest thing it has in comparison is a video based BBC News app, you do get access to the Roku App Store but unsurprisingly it doesn't have access to netflix or the likes.

I would be surprised if Sky were allowed to do that unless the broadcasters were complicit.

That's what it's like on Sky, you can only access iPlayer without subscription.

Is this true? Do you have a Sky+HD box without subscription and can you access BBC iPlayer?

I'm fairly sure it's true - I think it was said that the BBC wouldn't let iPlayer onto the Sky platform if it couldn't be reached without subscription, and I think Sky conceded and let the BBC have their way.

That's what it says on Sky's website.

Do you have a link? The text here says "Sky+ subscribers without Sky TV can access BBC iPlayer only." which suggests you need at least a Sky+ subscription (£10/month).

I'd probably get one of those myself, but it doesn't have an Ethernet port, and it isn't much use to me without that. I'll stick
with my media centre PC and my Xbox 360 for streaming media content over my network and the internet for now.

That was certainly the sticking point with Xbox Live Silver / Gold issues

From Broadcast:

Quote:
Channel 5 is preparing to launch a free-to-air channel repeating shows from the main channel – similar to Channel 4’s 4Seven.

5 Later is set to launch in January across Freeview, Sky and Freesat, and will feature a selection of the most popular shows that have recently aired. A placeholder has been launched on Freeview channel 55.

Celebrity Big Brother, The Hotel Inspector and the Stobart franchise are among the shows likely to be repeated, along with content from C5’s long-running kids’ strand Milkshake.

The launch of the channel will expand C5’s portfolio, which includes 5* and 5USA along with the flagship channel.
