Doubt Lorraine will be going anywhere bar staying on 8.30-9.25, but please not Kate and if we change the name of the show it will be back to another re-brand in 12 months time.

Eugh, Kate Thornton. No thanks. What they turning it into 'goss' break. Surprised
Seriously tho, Aled and Lorraine are doing fine. It's not the presenters it's the format.
Bringing back GMTV would infact in my opinion be a great idea.

It is interesting the timing of all the rumours regarding the future of the show at this time of year. Yesterday, there was the rumour of a rebrand to 'Good Morning UK'. But, in today's article about the possibility of Kate Thornton joining ITV Breakfast there was no mention of the potential rebrand.

In addition, I feel this is somewhat of a regurgitated story because back in the spring 2010 it was Kate originally who was touted for a big move joining Eamonn for a big revamp on GMTV before executives made the big money moves for Adrian and Christine. There were supposedly screen tests between them and they both presented TM together. Even though Kate T has had a lot of experience presenting ITV daytime shows being a former Loose Women anchor and guest TM presenter. I think that she just doesn't have a strong enough journalistic background to front this 'newsier' revamp of Daybreak or whatever it will be called. I think the likes of Helen Fospero or Ranvir Singh would be more suitable presenters IMO and has familiarity with the core audience.

I agree about Lorraine she will more likely go back to her slot and that I think Kate Garraway will still remain there because she has survived every single revamp. But, I am still unsure about bringing back to GMTV brand. Remember it was on the slide four years before it got axed. There might be some novelty value bringing it back but it won't improve ratings in the long term.

I also wan to add that "a source" told the Daily Mirror that Aled wanted to leave a Christmas, but Lorraine apparntley told him to stay so they could leave together. I just wanted to add that and i knows its (probably) not true

Are ITV perhaps forgetting that relaunch after revamp after new name etc isn't going to help the situation?

Get the format right and let it bed in, rather than chuck money after money all the time. Cut the celebrity crap and competitions down, improve the news, current affairs and lifestyle output and they'd be half way there at least.
London Lite and fanoftv gave kudos

It sounds reasonable, but why would they want to leave together?
Is lorraine giving up her show too, if the rumors are correct about them being axed?
Tbh, i think itv are making a big mistake axing them, give it time!
If i had the decicion, i'd keep them on the show until at least next September, tweaking the format and trying to get it right.
So, i bet they'll be axed kate will be 'standing in' with whatever co host she's infected, ratings dive bomb and ther'll be a new look, new presenters. They'll be in the same situation again.

I assume she meant they both left Daybreak together. I cannot see Lorraine giving up her show for years! And it is probably not true. I have actually emailed ITV saying they need to give it until next year.

TBH, it nearly is "Goss break" already!

I can bet Lorraine wont be leaving until she retires, and at that she'll get the massive party, bespoke graphics, commercial music, recorded wishes and everything, and then come back as a Special Correspondent, THE presenter of the ITV Network or something similar.

The rumours somewhat going around in circles now. Would be stupid to axe Aled and Lorraine in April and not relaunch until September though - indeed IMO makes more sense to launch the new show in the Spring and give it a few months to find it's feet ahead of a big push in September. Also doing that means inevitably the ratings should rise over the first few months by default.

To be honest ITV probably need to look at the slot as a whole and although Lorraine works individually, in the context of the slot perhaps scrapping it and having a newshour and then a 7-9.25 show would be best. I'm sure ITV would offer Lorraine something elsewhere in the schedule to let her move on with dignity - if Loose Women were to go she'd be a good option for a lunchtime slot.

Helen Warner has confirmed on Twittet that any story that she wants Rachel Riley or Kate Thornton for Daybreak is untrue. She says, "Lorraine is the one that I want". No mention of Aled or any reference to the stories about Eamonn.

I've been thinking, if they were to reinstate GMTV it wouldn't be the worst thing ever. If they managed to get Eamonn from SKY and Penny smith back. A newsier relaunch of GMTV, with the familiar faces and as i said a newsier format would work?

If i were in charge i'd bring back GMTV, Brand the newshour with it's own theme, graphics etc. I'd increase the local news to 4 minutes and make it twice an hour, with the second being a quick roundup.
Have a dedicated sports and business presenters.
Have less 'showbiz' fluff, less time quoting the newspapers etc.
Less lifestyle features.
Only one Entertainment roundup at 8.20.
Cut the competitions to once per hour.
the newshour to be presented with Matt and Ranvir
and 7 onwards presented with Eamonn and Penny or Eamonn and Lorraine.
Helen warner beleives looking to the past is best apparently, so maybe this is the way they'll go?
