I don't believe it adds anything to the show by changing the graphics, it doesn't fit with the set at all. Just makes it look tired imo.

They wont have changed the graphics to "add anything to the show", it will probably have been done to freshen up the show - maybe even split if off from Daybreak a little.

On the graphics front, personally they are awful and look like a powerpoint graphic.

I didn't say they did, I said 'I don't believe it adds anything to the show'. That's my personal views.

It's even worse than people were describing.

Probably unlikely, but maybe the Lorraine graphics team are following the 'flat' trend. Why they would be I don't know.

Quick question about the Daybreak set, does it get took down daily for Loose Women, or is the Loose Women set built in the middle of the DB set? or are the sets on different ends of the studios?

John Stapleton in for Aled this morning, Lousia was in for Ranvir yesterday. The ITV continuity announcers don't seem to check who is presenting as they usually do some cheesy link such as "...and speaking of great pairings, Lorraine Kelly, Aled Jones and Daybreak'. Wrong on two levels, a)Matt and Ranvir were on with the Newshour, and b) Aled is off today.

Yes, there is a decent size set store next to Studio 3, where the Loose Women set spends the most of its time in pieces. However I think they do build it in front of the Daybreak set, moving only the set pieces such as the sofa, desks, staging etc.

This seems more likely, as it'd be hard work to remove a video wall etc daily!
Has this always been the case with the loose women set?

The video wall / stage area and Lorraine set stay in and the loose women set is built in front of that. The Daybreak main area, news area and kitchen all go out to make room for the audience seating.

Ah, I see now! the entrance where the gests enter the show is the same area which is next to the lorraine sofa?
Has this been the layout since 2010 when 'LORRAINE' first moved into that studio?

I think the original plan was that LORRAINE would have a live audience. They seemed to change that idea just before it was launched, however.

Daybreak braced for latest overhaul

9 October, 2013 | By Jake Kanter

ITV is preparing to give Daybreak another major overhaul as the breakfast programme’s ratings continue to falter.

Helen Warner, who was named as ITV’s director of daytime in May, has been conducting a review of the show over the past few weeks and met with staff this morning to share some of the changes under consideration.

The former Channel 4 daytime boss is keen to address continued audience dissatisfaction with Daybreak in a bid to win back viewers from BBC Breakfast, which has continued to perform well following its move to Salford last year.

Although Warner’s review is not complete, it has shown Daybreak’s set needs to be changed to connect more with viewers and the show’s general tone also needs to be examined.

It is thought Daybreak needs to feel more like an early morning breakfast show and soften its more generalist daytime style. Changes are expected to be made in spring 2014.

Daybreak has been tinkered with regularly since its disastrous launch in 2010 with Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley. The programme’s most recent overhaul at the beginning of September last year, introduced new presenting duo Aled Jones and Loraine Kelly, as well as changes to the look and tone of the show.

Broadcast understands that Warner was asked some “tough questions” during the 30-minute briefing this morning, which was attended by most staff and talent.

Although she recognised that changes are necessary, she emphasised that the programme has “improved greatly” over the past year, with better exclusives, star guests and human interest stories.

However, this has not contributed to a boost in ratings – in fact its audience has decreased by more than 10% year on year.

Daybreak ratings

Daybreak, which on weekdays from 6am-8.30am, has averaged 635,000 (16%) viewers since the start of September, compared with 718,000 (17%) during the same period last year.

In contrast BBC Breakfast has averaged 1.5m (35.4%) since September.

An ITV spokeswoman said: “Helen Warner has been in her role as ITV director of daytime for just over three months and is naturally looking at the whole of the daytime schedule. A review of Daybreak is a key part of this.”

Daybreak is produced by ITV Studios and is currently edited by Karl Newton, who took over from David Kermode last year.
