It was part of a piece on internet connected devices, they put a pressure pad on a chair and had it rigged to tweet when somebody sat down.
@NewsnightChair.

I wonder what the TVF consensus is of the new balance of stories featured in Newsnight's roster?
They seem to be using the credits and last segment for light/even silly 'stories' more to great effect - as seen in the above clip thegeek posted, but I can't decide if it feels too out-of-keeping for Newsnight, or just what it needs.
Considering the reduction of arts programming (namely the destruction of The Review Show), it's been nice to see more arts interviews and reporting on Newsnight, especially Paxman's recent interview with a controversial architect on location.
Also do I have a faulty perception of the programme, or is Gavin Esler appearing less often? There's been a nice balance of Jeremy, Emily and Kirsty recently, but Gavin doesn't appear with the same frequency that he once did.
Not that I'm complaining, mind. Jeremy, Emily and Kirsty are by far the best suited of all the presenters they've featured over the past couple of years.

From what I've seen, Gavin is appearing more and more at 5pm on the NC. IIRC he was also on location for the channel (and possibly Newsnight too) one day last week. It may be my imagination, but there used to be a larger range of presenters who covered for Huw at 5 (Emily Maitlis, Nicholas Owen, Tim Willcox, Ben Brown etc.) ... but now it seems to be almost always Gavin.

Plus, in Tony Hall's announcement today, he made a point of saying that arts coverage would form part of Newsnight, as it is already.
I really have to hand it to Ian Katz, the programme's new editor. He really has put the sting back in Newsnight's tail, and it feels like the content is fresher, definitely more exclusives, and better analysis, like last night with Allegra and media commentator Steve Hewlett (who always seems to be hanging around when these exclusive break...!)
Hopefully they won't be too long in announcing a new Economics Editor. Guest reporting seems very popular - it's as if last night's report by Iain Martin was almost a job application for the vacant post.
Look out for Paxman vs Robinson (Tony, former EDL reader) Round 2 tonight as well!

Tuned and ready for a good argument between the two of them!

Show feels fresher, and has a definite feel of the Peter Barron era about it.
Some mistakes - the OB from the large green house was not a high point (kept expecting Ant and Dec to appear for a Bushtucker Trial) - but some triumphs as well. It needs to find a voice and a character of its own to not feel like "just another news programme".
It's a pity the budget reductions have meant more talking heads in the studio and less of the excellent investigative work that used to be Newsnight's trademark.
They need to balance wit and character with cheese and naff in their studio treatments though.

Although when they won their most recent award, it was commented that this was largely due to their studio specials.

Great end to tonight's programme with Kirsty performing a bit of the 'Thriller' dance!
