SIS (Satellite Information Services) who had a business running closed-circuit TV feeds for betting shops (horse racing mainly) and who had moved into the SNG / Uplink market (SISLink) bought them to create SISLive.

They go back a while - I know someone who used to install TV systems in bookies for them when they were known as Mecca Bookmakers.

I find the bookies stuff quite fascinating really, they get all their feeds without installing a big dish.

How does it work then?

I presumed it was fibre or special cable connection, I know there also have a satellite operation at 4.8e, but I rarely see bookies these days with big dishes pointing to it.

This BT Sport graphic must have turned up on the world feed somehow.

There was another one of these yesterday again the same style its a bit odd thats its in the style of BT graphics considering the rest of the graphics package looks nothing like it.

I wonder if they show on a game that Sky covers, do Sky even have this graphic?

Sky do have this graphic, but in their own style. The data is provided by Opta, so that may have something to do with it. Opta don't go to every game, the broadcaster pays for it, AFAIK.

Another angle of the World Cup 2022 debate - FOX is now speaking out against it, saying they've signed a coverage which is based on it taking place in the summer.

Although broadcasters in Europe would probably prefer a winter World Cup. Have the 2018 rights been sold in Europe yet?

2018 has (BBC/ITV have them here, unsurprisingly) - don't think bidding for 2022+ has opened yet. With many European broadcasters also having the Olympics I don't think they'd want a Jan/Feb tournament - November might be the better option, though I think for all countries programming is stronger then than in the summer and it would be far more disruptive ot the schedules.

The NFL coverage on Channel 4 last night overran by over an hour after the game itself was interrupted by lightning. It meant that Ironman 2013 and Brief Encounters of the Sporting Mind were not shown.

You don't need a particularly big dish for 4.8E. 1m would be fine.

Think most of the bookie TV stuff is satellite - but may be wrong.

Sue Barker is stepping down from SPOTY. Gabby Logan will join Clare and Gary for the 2013 show.
Quote:

In a statement, Barker said she had loved working on the show for the past 19 years, adding: "The BBC have asked me to stay but I had made the decision to downsize my commitments a while ago, and I knew that the time would be right after what was always set to be a magical 2012."

It makes sense really with Logan covering a wider range of sport, whilst Barker only really does tennis. A bit odd though considering Murray looks very likely to win it this year and it would have been her 20th year. Would have thought that round off her time fronting the show nicely.

Good for Sue . . . stepping down when she's at the very top, and that its her own decision rather.. And good to hear she'll still be involved in the BBC Sport fold with Wimbledon and the Olympics.

Very nice tribute by the SPOTY exceutive editor here:

This certainly makes her one of the longest-serving anchors of the programme. I think David Coleman did it for over 20 years, but she's certainly up there with Frank Bough and Steve Rider who presented for 18/19 years. Even Des Lynam only did 16 years.
