Broadcasting House-Studio E Recreation [new renders!]

With the BBC settled in BH, I thought I'd make a studio E recreation (July 2013)

This site closed in March 2021 and is now a read-only archive

Very impressive, if I might add some notes for the next round:

The sweeping red curve perspex outside the studio is off, it's in 3 parts, the middle centre one being much closer to the glass of the studio (touches about 4 feet from the corners). It should also be uplit too.

The spiral staircase would also be visible in your latest render if you're going for accuracy Smile

But don't get me wrong, love it, it's very very well done. I'm glad to see a return of the scrunched up paper people too!

Perhaps this shot from the opposite side of trundle cam helps show the general layout.

The glass was in three pieces, but they overlapped. They are now all in the right place. I've also made them lighter for the up-light.

I wasn't quite happy with my spiral staircase, but it's now in the daytime backdrop which I'll be doing some renders with soon.

I've worked on the newsroom a little, with this being the first render-

It may need a little more work, but as I said-I won't be able to render anything as detailed as the studio shots.

I've also been working on renders for Dateline London. I can't stand using the outdated graphics that are currently used, so I'm working on a new set to use instead. They are far from finished, but I did a test render which I thought I may as well show you for some feedback before I go further:

I've also rendered a more artistic shot of the studio for good measure:

Any critiques or comments are appreciated as always Smile

It looks great! I think some of the outer studio camera have a wider angle lens, at least it looks like that on air.

On the Newsroom shot there are usually some red chairs to the bottom of the screen and on the bottom image the board to the left is the same colour of the rest of it (light red)

Other then that these new images look really good

Thanks for the suggestion Coolalieo, I'll take a look and put some in for the next newsroom render.

I have some more renders here-these all have the daytime background and lighting:

I've also had a go at some alternative camera angles/shots:

If anyone has any shots in mind that they'd like to see, I'll happily have a go at them-given a good description.

This shot would look good on the Studio E set. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5KMvxIkFoc&t=1m43s

Everything seems to look great so far, would love to see anything that's a high-angle shot.

Thanks, DanielK, I had a go at the shot-

I'll have a go at a high angle next.

If anyone else has a suggestion, just say Smile

This continues to be a stunning recreation -however I think that the daytime lighting looks a bit artificial(?!) Obviously it is artificial but IMO it looks too fake and bright at the moment - but this is just my opinion, so feel free to disagree. I think the newsroom could do with some 'mould men' in it too, just to fill it out so it looks a bit less empty and plain - a bit of clutter wouldn't go amiss there either.

Thanks Critique, I'd agree with you on the lighting-I think it needs a bit more ambient light so the brighter spots don't stand out so much. I'll try and improve on that with the next render.

As for the newsroom, I'd love to give mould men a try along with clutter, but it all depends on how long it takes to render, so it's not likely to get much more complicated than it already is, unfortunately. Sad

One thing I've never quite established is what actually is on the blurred strip of screen in front of the desk in Studio E?

It's actually a world map. If you look very closely at this screen cap you can kind of make out the UK:

So I just made a very quick version that looks much better when zoomed in:
