Barely and lost again the next day.
To get them back on top I'd put Harry Smith down at Today when Rock Center closes, don't care what capacity, as long as he is there it will bring all of his fans over to NBC from wherever they flocked to when he was kicked off Early.
What utter nonsense. The Early show was a bad third in the ratings and losing money when he was a presenter on it. His non existent fans didn't exactly help Rock Center either.
Today topped the ratings with the Paula Deen interview for the first time since losing them.

In slightly unrelated news, Katty Kay and Mike Barnacle are co-anchoring Morning Joe on MSNBC today. I don't watch Morning Joe with much regularity, but it's not uncommon for Katty to appear from Washington and opine on a few stories. It is unusual to see her anchoring from Studio 3A in New York, however.

She really wouldn't, she is no Matt Frei. She is beyond dire on Meet the press and is often just the token woman. Her analysis is often so wrong it's hilarious. she is a mediocre presenter.
Sadly this won't happen imo especially not for a full time gig. She has lots of connections in Washington and that's how she gets the gigs. Her kids go to the same private school as Obama's kids and other Washington/media insiders. Her best friend who she wrote a book with just happens to be the wife of the White House Press Secretary.
Katty is increasingly being used on radio and other TV programmes aside from World News America. Having already lost Matt Frei to Channel 4, I can't help but feel she might be snapped up eventually by an American news network.
She'd be missed from the BBC .

She is often in the New York studio. They seemed to have cut back on Tina Brown
. Wasn't she also there a few weeks ago when Russell brand humiliated her and Mika?

Katty's ok, but I wouldn't say her presence is missed when she's not on Mo'Jo. Unlike Willie Geist and Mike Barnicle.
It'll be interesting to see what happens to Morning Joe over the coming months, and whether CNN's New Day manages to keep building its viewership. Not everyone at NBC is a fan of Morning Joe, and it could be that big changes will come. Especially since they lost Willie Geist from the table the majority of the time.
And I'm really not keen on the increasing amount of blue in their onscreen branding. The previous orange, brown and white was more suitable, somehow.
Yeah, because it would cost that much for NBC News - a much larger news organisation than ITV or ITN - to buy out contracts at ITV. Frankly, I doubt in the case of producers and directors money would need to change hands - unless they're on fixed term contracts, couldn't they just give notice?

Unless she can convince NBC to pay off the persons contract, I don't think anyone will be going wth her, she might ask people (Producers, Directors etc) to come when their contracts finish.

I know that NBC can
pay
out a contract, but why would they want to? It is only their new Head of News vouching for them. To be honest, who the hell would she want to bring over to America? Unless Turness wants a show to originate from London then there would be no point in taking people over.

Having a look at the figures, ITN as a whole has 640 staff; MSNBC alone has 600.

I'm not sure how much of a threat New Day really is. Sure, their ratings are up now when the show is new, but it'll be more telling as to whether those viewers are staying with the show a few months from now. I personally can't stand New Day for some reason. I think it's the Cuomo-Baldwin pairing in addition to what I feel like is a dumbing-down of the already dumbed-down CNN Domestic. But I also feel like Morning Joe has lost its energy. It has a cult following, but there's only so much aimless political chatter from Joe, Mika et al that viewers can take. The show needs to broaden its focus a little bit and include more of the, what do you call it, news in order to avoid viewers from leaving.
I also agree with you on the blue. I really really liked Morning Joe's original burgundy and cream graphics, though I wasn't opposed to a change after six year. I like the new graphics, but I think it's still too early in the morning for navy blue to be on TV.
