Essentially, it's the same set up as the 9 oclock News channel hour with some tweaks then?

I think the titles look awful with colour imagery and black text instead of grey. Clearly a shoddy job lacking attention to detail. Amazed they didn't go down the NWT HD Titles route.

The images also don't animate properly like the Lambie-Nairn versions did - they are just static rather than moving with the pulsating rings. Seems they've just used the same kind of template for the new World News Today titles. They would have been much better going down the NWT route.

The set doesn't look great but let's not forget it is only temporary until D is ready. They could be in D by the end of the year for all we know.

Can't same I'm keen on London gradually looking identical to standard bulletins, using the newsroom as a backdrop. You'd expect some kind of local touch, but at least it's temporary.

It's odd how they're gradually allowing some regions to break away from the rigid 2008 template - North West Tonight's titles, London adding colour for no obvious reason etc

The London skyline used on BBC World News would be a start.

Think it looks crap.

AFAIK, the NWT titles mentioned were made by somebody that works on the show weren't they? I don't think there's any intention to roll them out elsewhere.

I'd second that!

Compared to ITV's London virtual set-up, this one isn't as clear, attractive or as easy to look at in comparison. Then again, at least the BBC London programme doesn't take as much filler from surrounding regions as ITV do.

I have to agree with you there. To me it looks a bit overdone. I would have thought the background would have at least been animated. It just looks too static and corporate for a regional news program. Compared to ITV London who at least manage a London backdrop.

However BBC London do get a better quality program, I always find there reports much more local, cuts at ITN means that sometimes it is back to back guests while BBC London don't. And at least BBC London manage the word "goodbye".

So in my eyes the studio isn't that great but then content is what matters.

The regional news coming from a national studio does feel a little reminiscent of the days of Nationwide/South East at Six/Sixty Minutes - however anything is better than the awful shoebox set they had previously - I hope they're not going back to anything similar when they move to Studio D.

Local if you live in Greater London, but despite the name, BBC London News also covers a great deal of the South East and, other than the weather forecast, there is still very little of relevance to those of us who live outside the M25.

Unless you happen to live in Hertfordshire, where they have Yvonne Hall based in the county, it's always the yearly jolly to Dorking Vineyard for one lucky reporter or pooled from SET/Look East.

This virtual setup is temporary right? Until Studio D is ready. As for the titles, yes it looks weird compared to the grey and red we are used to. No doubt the move to HD made them want a bit more colour and they only had the existing title template to use.

Could they not use the nations trmplate and put a London map in?
