Maryam Nemazee back on Al Jazeera tonight, from London, probably still freelancing - but it's a shame to see her doing all these stand-in shifts as her Bloomberg programme, 'The Pulse' was excellent. As for the other Bloomberg cuts, Linzie Janis is now business correspondent on ABC's World News with Diane Sawyer, Owen Thomas is director of English business programming at SaxoBank in Copenhagen, heading up a new project SaxoTV, and Linda Yueh, of course, is at the BBC in Singapore.

Al Jazeera has just opened up A LOT of hirings, and most of them are in the United States...

And they have also hired veteran journalist Ed Pound for AJA's Investigative Unit...

(I do not exactly have no idea who he is, or how prominent he is in the Americas...)

Quote:
The London bureau of the Arabic global news channel al-Jazeera is on the move, from its current base at the grand address of One Knightsbridge, adjacent to the five-star Lanesborough Hotel. Its current location is actually an extensive windowless basement, originally the morgue to St George's Hospital (which later moved south to Tooting). Staffers have been briefed to prepare for a switch by the end of the year to the 16th floor of the Shard , next to London Bridge. So it's very much a case of out of the shadows and into the light. From SW1 to SE1 – quite a journey. But one they seem happy to take.

Really?? You call having a double mastectomy to reduce their risk of breast cancer not a big story? Yes Angelina Jolie is a big name, but as we say in Scotland, it takes a certain amount bollocks to do something like that and I doubt other Hollywood stars would do the same thing!

Really?? You call having a double mastectomy to reduce their risk of breast cancer not a big story? Yes Angelina Jolie is a big name, but as we say in Scotland, it takes a certain amount **** to do something like that and I doubt other Hollywood stars would do the same thing!

I don't think the the poster isn't implying it's not a big deal for the individual. The question of whether it's a "big story" is a different one however.

Also I'm not sure many big stars really want to die before their time, so many would probably go through this procedure if it seemed like a sensible option. Not saying Jolie doesn't have a certain amount of ****, but you could argue it would take a certian of **** to not do anything and probably end up dying or becoming seriously ill at a young age.

Point being, it's not about whether it's a big deal for the individual, millions of big deals for individuals happen everyday around the world.

My view, with this person being a well known individual it probably is worthy of a place somewhere on the news agenda.

^ Exactly, it's a bold and good move, FOR HER. I don't mind the story being in the news, not even in the top 3 or 5 stories but having it as the big main story with almost 10 minutes spent on it on BBC World, in particular, was a bit strange, to say the least.

Plus it wasn't just for one bulletin, it was the top story in all of their bulletins and it probably still is. CNN at least had some variety with their biz shows.

I switched to AJ knowing they will have some story that affects more people as their lead and I was not mistaken. 10 years ago it would be the same on BBC World, no doubt, but times have changed.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but can anyone explain to me why they removed one desk?

I believe the took it out for the US Election, so they could use the podium to display graphics. Why it hasn't been put back is another question.

The desk that was removed was the old desk for Inside Story in Doha. When they moved Inside Story to a new studio and set, the old desk was removed as it was no longer needed. It had been removed for about a year before they used the podium for the US election.

Thank you. But the studio looks odd now.
