Yes they do, but when its announced as the official voiceover, I don't think it works.

It works perfectly well. even more so now since they changed the voiceover from male to female. There was no special voiceovers post 2009 era when presenters went abroad and were presenting.

I'm all for special voiceovers, but IMO 'in the studio' isn't right, maybe it is the way it was said in that specific recording, but I wouldn't have gone for that.

I believe the voiceovers are recorded down an ISDN line from her home recording studio.

The normal ones were done at ITN but the special ones with most probably be done from home.

No they weren't. All of the new female voiceovers have been done via ISDN. The old voiceover guy used to visit ITN to record them, though.

That isn't what the female artist said, she said she recorded at ITN so I was going off that.

Hmmm, that's strange. I've heard the original recording session files for the normal voiceovers and there was ISDN break-up during some of the recording sessions. And it was easy to tell she was at home, too. So I don't know why she would say that to you, unless she's talking about more recent versions than the original January sessions.

It does work. It works, and has worked, very well in this country for various different news organisations. Maybe the obsessive person in you needs to know the studio number in the announcement, but that's primarily an American thing.

Exactly, as far as the viewer is concerned the studio means ITV's studio, they only have one.

The numbering of the studio is of no interest to anyone other than people who work in TV or on TV presentation related internet forums.

I don't care about the numbering, I'm saying that IMO 'in the studio/in studo *' only works if they're referencing a specific studio, not if it is generic.

Why not? They aren't going to be presenting from the London studio are they, or the Granada studio for that matter. They only have one main studio for national bulletins apart from London at Lunchtime.

Last time in the 2009 era, Julie Etchingham had to tell viewers that the bulletin was coming from Millbank due to power problems at the normal building.

Why? There is a studio. The people mentioned are in it. They are in the studio. Those three sentences make sense, and make sense when an announcer says them.

To me it doesn't right, it may possibly be the way she has said it. if it was 'Mark Austin...in the studio' or 'Mark Austin...and Julie Etchingham..at the Vatican'

What they heck are you on about, Daniel? Your line of argument is completely bizarre. Like bilky says, what on earth doesn't make sense about "Mark Austin in the studio"? For the vast majority of viewers (and I mean VAST majority) there is one studio. Nobody apart from geeks like us know that there are a few studios at ITN. In fact most people probably don't even think about ITN as an organisation any more.

For all intents and purposes, "studio" means the ITV News studio in London. It's as simple as that. It would sound worse if the voiceover said "Studio 1". That means absolutely nothing to most people. It's the same as what's going on over in the BBC News threads - speculation as to how BBC News will say goodbye to specific studios like N6 and TC7. Most people will have no comprehension at all about what studios the BBC has and some members here seem to have lost sight of the fact that they are saying farewell to broadcasting from TVC - not N6/TC7/ N8 etc.

God, this is almost as exciting as that time someone wore a black tie on News 24. Rolling Eyes

Look, a strange synchronicity between the threads...

Didn't recognise/realise it was Gayanne Potter doing the ITN voiceovers. Nice person, met her last year!

From the likes of road safety ads, to ITN, to 'Betty King!' Wink Laughing
