ITV News London can once again promote that it's award winning by being awarded the RTS Nations & Regions Award for 2012 tonight.

Quite ironic considering how most here have been commenting on how it's really gone downhill over the last year.

Exactly my sentiments.

That cap also shows, in the window reflection, a screen a few metres along from the one you can see on screen, as if London and National News sets were physical things and actually opposite each other, which is a nice touch.

Tonight's award winning RTS bulletin included the following.

A Labrador who swallowed 73 pebbles on a beach.
Tenuous coverage of the Oscars which included Adele and a costume designer from Hendon.
A puff piece from Martin Stew about flowers.
Brief coverage of the Mayor's budget exaggerated to tabloid proportions and job cuts at a Tesco distribution centre in Harlow.

One of the worst bulletins since the cuts. All this will do is move viewers to BBC1 and London Live when it starts.

How can ITV make Robin McCallum 'redundant' (if the position is still there essentially)?

Martin Stew is the cheaper version, he works weekends too.

I think the point that is being made is that if someone is effectively 'replaced' this can be seen as 'constructive dismissal'.

It would seem Martin Stew's position differentiates as he also 'reports' (I use the term loosely) for the programme.

i'm no fan of the show but that's just wrong. the budget stuff led the bulletin, not the labrador. There were also full reports on the Banksy mural and the gay couple refused entry to a hotel. Every local news provider tries to find a link to something like the Oscars.
it's quite obvious they're struggling by on scant resources though. Quite sad to see when you think of the old LNN days.

I made no mention of the Labrador leading the bulletin, but the point is that story shouldn't have even been on the programme. Hopefully the reduction of the regional content to twenty minutes will reduce the necessity for the puff.

The conclusion made by the pointless chat between Nina Hossain and Simon Harris was that the Mayor's budget went through with a brief explanation of events with more emphasis on Boris being forced out. A more detailed explanation behind the reasons given for the opposition parties revolt was given on BBC London News.

The point is, for a bulletin which covers a world city, ITV/ITN continue to feed Londoners a provincial bulletin which doesn't meet the requirements of most Londoners. Fine for Anglia or Meridian, but not London.

They probably won't take the risk of putting a higher quality (and more expensive!!) camera on the roof of a studio.

The BBC New York studio has had an HD camera on the roof doing the same job since 2005... (It's downconverted to SD for the down-the-line backdrop - but was fed in HD to the projector in the New York studio) HD brick cameras that can do a decent wide shot are not exactly big bucks these days...

The New York camera is quite high up the building, isn't it? The ITV camera is on top of TLS 7 which is on the 3rd or 4th floor I think which would mean it may be easier to vandalise/damage.
