No soft set, they barely have a main set, do they have to do every interview on a plasma from the newsroom?

Yes, which is one of the reasons why it is so awful. We have the sports presenter coming from the newsroom because there is no room around the desk. Sometimes, guest interviews are carried out in the studio but the 2nd presenter has to vacate there seat.

They would have been better sticking with the opt-out of the Leeds programme until such time as they could provide an adequate service.

The latter sounds very daft, so Peter suddenly pops off is replaced by a guest and then reappears a few mins later!

The banter with the weather was good, though the sound seemed a bit dodgy, the self-opt studio in Leeds always seems to have the volume turned up at the best of times, so Paul's laughter was loud

And the connected placenames was another idea by yours truly, i.e. me!!

It was 'Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em', and Christa didn't get it!

There was one occasion when Paul and Lisa swapped shifts, so Paul did the Breakfast weather with Peter. They tried a bit of banter but it didn't seem to work, probably because the humour comes from cutting back to Peter to see his reaction to what Paul has just said, which can't be as spontenious when you're self opping.

Inicdentally I wish Clare would do the link to Lisa like Danny Savage does it, cut to Lisa's camera during the handover, rather than "here's Lisa *clunk* "

Radio Leeds mentioned this morning that their building had been struck by lightening and the sport was coming from a different studio... is this the same building as Look North are in?

Sounds like a stupid question I know, but Radio Leeds always refer to Broadcasting House, Look North/Politics Show etc to Broadcasting Centre

It is - Radio Leeds and Look North Leeds are housed in the same building, but I think Radio Leeds are more to the left of the building and Look North more to the right.

Yes and they were having technical problems on Sunday morning just after the lightening strike.

I was listening to the back end of Peter Levy's show and it finished at 10.59am and Peter introduced the travel news and then the travel news jingle and bed played out clean for about 20 secs, they obviously were having problems making contact with the independant travel people in Newcastle or somewhere. Peter then adlibbed that there wern't any travel problems but the roads would get busier as the day goes on (as if he really knew that!!).

The news at 11am then went as normal and at 11.05am the news finished and we were then treated to a few minutes of dead air before some emergancy records were played. They obviously were having problems making contact with the Bradford studios. The next programme with Alex Hall which is live from Bradford therefore didn't start until about 10 past!

Thats right, all the computer servers were damaged, and it was a real struggle to get on-air - Thats why the Sunday bulletin came from the pres studio.
And you're right about the Bradford link, the strike affected the link so we were unable to establish contact with the studio.
It also affected the regional radio bulletins after 7pm weekdays and after 6pm weekends.
All fun and games. Nice bit of overtime for the engineers though!

Yes and to get some proper banter going they would need to repeatedly clunk back and forth to see each others reactions which wouldn't work.

Its good that Ian White (who is still doing the late one today) manages banter even though Paul Hudson isn't there, it'd be interesting if some bad news broke around 10pm, we'd get..

Ian White: Serious voice "Now here's the weather with Paul"
Paul Hudson: "HA HA Yes I did get it wrong yesterday Thanks Ian.."

And talking again about radio, we got to see Alex Hall tonight promoting the Late Night Yorkshire on BBC Radio's Leeds, Sheffield, Humberside and the other one that likes to be called 'BBC North Yorkshire'

I did notice Peter Levy used a local radio caption yesterday teatime and used the 'on the air right now' phrase!

And finally, poor show on Calendar tonight as they did a straight 'now more news from your part of the region' link to the local news, so we couldn't see if Geoff was still about or anyone unusual, I wonder why, as I think the sequence is now done live the previous excuse of not having the presenters available at 3.30pm to record it is no longer valid

Katherine, I'm surprised you did not mention the backroom slip -up with the placenames on the weather, (which I guess must have happened sometime last week)

According to a sunday tabloid newspaper, Paul was left red-faced when the placenames which were themed on measurements had only part of the names appearing (The words that appeared i'm not going to repeat here).

Paul appeared on screen accompanied by an embarrassing message, which left his fellow presenters in stitches which led him to apologise for the error.

Shame I don't live in the Look North (Yorkshire and Linconshire) area as I certainly would have found it funny! Very Happy

It turns out the late show came from Radio Leeds last night so maybe they are only able to do that link up from the late Look North when it is done in Leeds

Radio Leeds dug out some old jingles this morning to celebrate their 35th birthday... the old travel and weather ones sound a lot better than the current ones!
