The problem I have is the that the new itv logo is all "fluid", yet the look of the news is hard corners and squares. There's a real uneasy dis-joint here..

Agreed. Also, the current and recent eras' lower-case "itv" logos followed by upper-case "NEWS", grammatically, read as "ittvuh, enn, eee, double-u, ess" (if you see what I mean), which I've never liked.

It's a bit like how the lack of dots/full-stops in BBC One's former regional-news-replacement "UK TODAY" (remember that?) meant that, grammatically, the entirely-upper-case logo actually read as "Uck Today".

Bring back the blocky ITN logo.

This is probably about as likely as a UFO with Elvis Presley and Lord Lucan on board landing on the Loch Ness Monster's head, during a snow storm in August.

ITN is still a strong brand in most people's mind, associated only with ITV.

For me and thee, yes. But anyone under a certain age now wouldn't remember overt use of the "ITN" name/brand/logo at all, either through being too young or not yet born at the time.

Yes, up until last week or so the full ITN logo still appeared on the closing production endcap, but how many "average viewers" (i.e. non-"Pres Fans") consciously notice/register production end slides?

Quite frankly, a TV programme could end with a brief caption slide stating "bo / / ocks", and I suspect that an awful lot of viewers would probably have not/barely noticed, if you were to ask them one-second-later "did you just see that?". So the ITN name has been all-but-invisibe to many, for years now anyway really.

It's called stylistic licence (and not taking things to literal extremes).

And I think for most people the content rather than the name is what they notice. ITV News has been around 14 years now, and the ITN brand would just look out of place nowadays on ITV considering how everything is so branded, and how ITN is much more than the provider of news. It really was inevitable the moment Channel 5 launched that ITV would want to brand the news after their own channel.

The news on BBC is called BBC News
The news on Channel 4 is called Channel 4 News
The news on Five is called Five News
The news on Sky is called Sky News
The news on ITV is called ITV News

I do agree that there should be an ITN endcap though, but anything other than that would look so out of place these days.

He's not even being literal, he's completely misinterpreting the way our language works. He can't possibly read the words like that and be able to read and respond to posts on this forum. If he reads each letter like that I am surprised he had time to come up with that nonsense in the first place.

Any more News on the proposals for ITV's Regional News?

Maybe Ofcom/ITV should at least be looking at making the Border and West (The Westcountry East name really sucks) Regions have their own Regional News programming again. As a dual region I also believe ITV should split the Central region into West/East News Regions again. These areas (along with the current programmes) should be the minimum ITV should provide. They should never have lost their News Programming (even if the Bulletins were made in the Newcastle/Bristol/Birmingham studios). After all what's the point in having a flash looking Studio if the content is not at least part relevant?

I also think ITV should be providing a bulletin for the Thames Valley sub-region as currently the Meridian region is just too big.

I've now come round to the thinking that ITV should be allowed to scrap their Regional News updates within Daybreak, as long as they continue to provide Weather/Travel updates within that programme. The rest of the programing would be the same duration as present.

6:08 ITV Weather/Travel update.
7:08 ITV Weather/Travel update.
8:08 ITV Weather/Travel update.
13:55 ITV Regional News
18:00 ITV Regional News
22:30 ITV Regional News

As stated previously I believe a Regional 30 minute Political/Current Affairs/Lifestyle show for the current Pan-Regions could be a good idea too...

I think if ITV were ever to squeeze any more money into regional news, I think trying to match the BBC would be the way to go. In my opinion, the plan should go in this order.

- Agree to sub contract Border Scotland's news provision to STV, while keeping the rest of the station (adverts, ITV branding) part of ITV PLC. This would mean Tyne Tees & Border News would match Look North and therefore would probably 'do' as one single programme.

- Reinstate Central News East, still made in Birmingham
- Reinstate Westcountry Live, still made in Bristol
- Split Meridian into two, lastly, as at least there is some sort of history of a combined south coast programme/rubbishy bolted on regions in this area (Newsroom South East, South Today's Oxford opt etc)

Central would be the priority for me and would be the easiest to do. Would the ITV West & ITV Meridian studios actually have space for two studios as there is no history of this at ITV West and ITV Meridian have moved since.

Some sort of 'one size fits all' regional half hour show covering Politics and 'Inside Out' type topics at 10:30pm one night a week (not Thursdays) or on a Sunday teatime would be nice, and shouldn't really be 'that' expensive, but I can't see it happening.

Sadly unless OFCOM step up it's not going to happen, despite ITV not being able to plead poverty at the moment. I'd say that Westcountry is probably the priority, along with splitting the Border region (though I suspect ITV want to keep some presence in Scotland). Central and Meridian probably not quite so crucial - ITV kind of posed the question of OFCOM to see whether less news in more regions or the status quo was preferred, and OFCOM went for what they have now (which I suspect is what ITV were hoping!).

Non-news regional programming is IMO the biggest thing that's missing on ITV at the moment (regional wise) - and I don't think that should be in the form of little watched late night politics shows or even Inside Out style shows. It would be great to see the regions doing at least one series which fell out of this bracket every year - even if they are shows commissioned with the vision that they'll get a network repeat one day as many of the 8pm filler shows ITV currently airs against EastEnders are essentially regional shows broadcast nationwide.

I don't like the way ITV News is now being introduced as "Your ITV News". To me when someone says "Your" it sounds completely wrong and if I don't own it it is not mine.
