I guess the background is the "virtual within virtual" then. It does seem odd that the various screens behind them are all unmanned, but I guess that makes life easier than having the same person doing exactly the same thing at the same point each night.
The shots of the Big Ben clock face at the start of last night's NAT titles were close-ups of various sections and/or numerals around the clock face, without the hands shown pointing at any particular number(s), rather than the usual clear display of the clock showing 10 o'clock.
It's quite nice that they've prepared such a "generic" variant for when the bulletin is delayed/shifted etc. Presumably, such generic Big Ben shots will also be used in the titles of weekend bulletins etc.

I spoke to Dave Hewson on Twitter, and he said that the 4/4 Bass Drum was a bit of a risk and a gamble...But it seems to have have paid off going by the extended closing from Tuesday night...
