The Finnish version of Newsnight, called simply A , has got a brand new look this week. Note that Tuesday's A2 programme (broadcast on TV2 instead of TV1, as the name suggests) has different music - which happens to be a remix of the Panorama theme, as always. Have a look at these Yle catch-up videos:

Interesting!

As you may know, the Panorama theme is itself a remix of Francis Lai's instrumental Aujourd'hui c'est toi from the 1966 movie Un homme et un femme :

Here's the Panorama theme as heard on Canada's CBC in the 1970s:

Ajankohtainen kakkonen actually adapted Aujourd'hui c'est toi two years before Panorama, so it might be that A2 inspired Panorama. Anyways, here's a montage of A2 intros all the way from 1969 to the previous intro - just to mention, the 2006 theme was remixed by world-famous rap artist Paleface . The montage also features Tom Hanks in the beginning, struggling to pronounce the show's name correctly.

---

Continuing with Finland and another station - this time it's MTV3. This intro has been used since 2005 - sorry for the ads lasting until 2:40 into the video.

Sports news ( Tulosruutu , literally Final Score ), also in use since 2005. Clipped from special bulletin in 2011, when a full hockey team of over 50 players and coaches died due to a plane crash in Russia.

And now to some vintage presentation. Kymmenen uutiset (News at Ten) from 1995.

Extra bulletin from 1990, reporting the death of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in Romania.

Extra bulletin from 1986, reporting the death of Finland's longest serving president, Sir Urho Kekkonen OBE. Sorry for B&W, the titles are in fact blue.

Three days to go until Nelonen/HS News begin on Finnish telly. Lately the buzz has been on their new anchor, Marco Bjurström, who is openly gay. As you know, being gay is not commonly tolerated in Finland and people have been protesting against Nelonen's decision to hire Bjurström.

Earlier today, the buzz shifted to another thing: their corporate HQ, Sanomatalo, was decorated with something rather odd: a 100-something ft tall banner sporting the news anchors' portraits. This hasn't been accepted by the City of Helsinki, because accordingly Nelonen Media's building documents for Sanomatalo appeared to miss TWO critical pages related to EU advertising regulations. And because of that, the City are claiming that they're ready to take it down with force. Sorry for the small pic, took it straight from Nelonen Media's corporate site.

EDIT @ 1/12 4:50 PM: A better capture of the poster - but where's the main anchor? I guess the City has started tearing the advert down.

Nelosen Uutiset: in Threeeeeeee Deeeeeeeee! It's coming!

If they are not going to use green screen, will they use AR techs?

Generally, major media giants owning newspapers and broadcast channel would let the news divisions in each output work with each other. But all outputs sharing one news division? That's no media giants in the United States would ever thought.

With Nelonen carrying ITV News bulletins, will YLE compete them by carrying BBC World News programmes and domestic BBC News bulletins?

According to an article on Friday's Helsinki Times, they will indeed use augmented reality.

Quote:
Thanks to the new equipment, Nelonen is now fully ready to begin 3D broadcasting. "The viewer will notice the difference right from the start: not just thanks to improved picture quality, but also thanks to some new virtual reality elements. For example, during election nights, the result of the election can be illustrated with virtual pillars, which will be rising from the studio floor - a first in Finnish television history", tells Nelonen News' executive producer Paavo Tervonen.

Yle have just started broadcasting BBC programmes, the first ones being Why poverty? and World News Today. They're also broadcasting BBC's Russian language news bulletins until the launch of Yle's own bulletins next year.

Sounds like your standard Vizrt virtual studio to me. Though obviously they'd be expected to hype up their investment.
