I love Daybreak! Watched it for a whole week this past five days and liked every bit of it!

I've watched Daybreak more than I did when it first launched. I find this version warm and welcoming where as the previous incarnations have felt too cold, like BBC Breakfast.

First Granada (not even proper headlines) News of the day had Fred doing the weather than the last 2 updates had Kerri doing a voice over - any reason why? Or was it because after Fred's recording, last night, weather pattern had changed - if so they why hadn't they re-done the first bulletin weather?

Perhaps the weather needed updating - in case you've not heard it's been raining quite a lot recently Wink
and Fred was not available.

Just noticed it yesterday as I took a break from building my ark! Wink

Also has the whole layout of the studio changed from the start of the revamp. After a week I kind of figured where certain bits where but its seems to have gone to pot a little - Weather seems to have moved as well as the performance and kitchen areas.

The Studio Layout hasn't changed one bit since launch.

The weather is in front of Lorraine's set and gets moved out at 0830.

Any chance of a panoramic shot of the studio?

I find myself drifting away from it after 7am, either putting BBC Breakfast on or even watching it on +1. The novelty of Lorraine being on the main show has worn off and Matt & Ranvir work together much better. I find the 7-8.30am bit quite annoying now. I still like Lorraine on her own show if I see it, and I really like Kate doing Fridays again too (on the 7-8.30 slot, oddly she annoys me on 'Lorraine').

Just spotted this on Ebay - a charity auction for you to sit in on Daybreak Central Scotland news then record your own bulletin to take home.

Went for £300 in the end.

Am I right in thinking Macmillan Media's contract for Daybreak Scotland ends in December this year? I'm sure I read that when they took over from STV in December 2007, it was a five-year contract. I could be talking absolute rubbish, though...

I do hope they give STV and UTV back the new contracts, the quality of the Macmillan bullitens are terrible!

Well now ITV plc own 'ITV Breakfast' there's definitely a chance they could ask UTV & STV to take over the contracts.

That Scotland set is woeful! It reminds me of TVam Scotland back in the early eighties. I'm sure that sofa is the same one that Haig Gordon and Sheena MacDonald used to sit on for Scotland Today, way back in the day...... Smile

The Daybreak website now gives a rundown of what's happening in the next programme. It's quite a nice way of showing the newsier style the show has. I'd say it has more news content than the GMTV of old, and Daybreak V1. For example, on Monday's show:

Quote:
06:15 Pensions shake-up
06:20 Labour party conference
06:25 Paper review
06:35 Ed Balls
06:50 ID fraud
06:55 Stoptober: quit smoking
07:10 Sentenced to death for being old
07:20 Sketch Santa
08.20 X-Factor surprise!

Doesn't that just show the Newshour is newsy, which is how it was in the GMTV days? Once you hit 7 o'clock it seems you're more likely to get trash.

That said, it has got newsier but I'm not convinced that schedule demonstrates it well.

I wouldn't say that GMTV did as good a job in the 6am hour, though. IMO, I'd say Daybreak are producing the newsiest ITV Breakfast show so far. And they've kept the 'X-Factor surprise' to 20 past 8, which would have probably snuck into the 7am (and possibly 6am) hours before.

I agree the summary above does illustrate the newsier style of the show especially the newshour with Matt and Ranvir. There is definitely more news content compared to the last era of GMTV and Daybreak V1. On the whole I think the balance between light and news items has improved significantly.

However, on the ratings front, even though Daybreak's audience share has improved since the re-launch the ratings are still stuck around 600,000 - 700,000 threshold. The audience share is down around 2% year on year as well as viewing figures. If you compare Daybreak's average viewing figures this time in 2010 that is when viewing saw their biggest decline then rose again in November. The key question that surely must worry executives is that will the viewing figures start picking up towards Christmas or will they remain stuck. There are still constant calls to bring back 'Kate and Dan' on the social network sites.

Also, a question that I was wondering about the presenters was that who is Aled's Deputy Presenter when he is off. Remember he has got his concert tour in the spring next year so I he will off for a couple of weeks. The obvious choice would be Matt considering how well he has presented the newshour alongside Ranvir. There was talk that it was Gethin Jones. Can anyone confirm who would deputise for Aled especially during the holidays. I keep thinking Matt and Kate would make a great presenting pair.
