Wow, genuinely the end of an era - he has been there since the start of national ITV forecasts in 1989.
Would love to see him continue to forecast somewhere else (apart from his Meridian stint) but BBC forecasts seem to have dispensed with the majority of the old school presenters so I'm assuming there's no place for him there either?
According to alex Beresford's twitter Martyn Davies is moving overseas....think he said New Zealand.
Soooo... having just seen Lucy Verasamy do the national forecast on ITV1 this lunchtime, it struck me just how much difference there is in the presentation of ITV's forecasts depending on who is on duty. I'm guessing the presenter also does the graphics and whatnot for their forecast, because each seems to have their own style.
Lucy's forecast only used the 'wide' UK map that fills the whole screen. The blue bar at the top extended all the way across.
Sian Lloyd tends to just use the thinner map, and the blue bar only goes part of the way across. Martyn Davies tended to do this too.
Alex Beresford tends to use a mix of both.
It's interesting that such flexibility is allowed - the level of detail in Lucy's forecast was way more than in any of the others', and better for it. There was a definite Sky News influence.

Sian Lloyd is often very detailed, usually the post ITV News at 6:30 forecast when theres more time though - by far the best presenter atm.
I think the difference is maybe that Lucy is very technical, whereas Sian gets across the message well of "do you need a coat or not", if you get what I mean.
There have been rumours of an ITV Weather revamp for ages. I'm not convinced there's a need to be honest - it does the job. The regional forecasts in particular tend to be excellent.

Do you think? I watched Granada's weather forecast this morning and all I could tell was there was a chance of rain, unlike North West Today's forecast which told me exactly when and where. ITV's system of symbols is very out-dated.
Where symbols would be welcomed back to the BBC however is on the later days of the week where only city forecasts are shown. Rather than those odd squares of rain and cloud, a symbol would look much better. Considering they've come back to the BBC Weather website, I'm surprised they haven't thought about bringing them back to do city forecasts.

Possibly the reason they've not been brought back is the difficulty of implementation being too high for the potential benefit. Maybe they'll return when a revamp takes place.
I'm getting kind of tired of all these fotos of weather presenters lying around semi naked all over the place. It's doing my head in. It's doing my head in. All I can say, with regard to the last foto in the above sequence, is that he needs to get down the gym. That's a poor excuse for a cold front, that one. Not a single isobar to be seen.
And, as for rain. Hmmph! I'll give him rain..........
