Inspired by new look T4 (June 2003)

This set is loosely inspired by the new look T4. The basic look is a white background with coloured strips at the top and bottom, and a coloured C4 logo animating in the white area.

IDENTS
The idents are based on the theme of light. They generally have a programme menu centered on them, before the lights brighten up and the C4 logo flashes on to screen.

BREAK BUMPER
This is a white version, but it could also be colour. The screen basically begins white, with it fading out to reveal the logo and bars.

PROMOS
Beginning with the coloured bars and a small centered logo, which fade out, the promos end with a standard white screen.

ECPs
Programme credits are made to the same specification as currently used by C4:

These are reduced to fit the area shown. The entire credits are shown in this format (i.e. they don't reduce on screen).

I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but something is putting me off these, especially the first two. I quite like the simple menus with blue and orange strips, but there is still something just not right about these. I'll let you know when I realise exactly what it is. Smile

I know what you mean. There's something about them I can't quite put my finger on, either. Maybe it's the top and bottom straps on everything making it all look a bit "hemmed in".

Don't get me wrong, I think they're very good, and striking, and they're layed out excellently, and I always feel a little churlish harping on about other peoples' mocks when mine are pure rubbish, but... I don't know. Maybe they're a bit too white? It could just be the sorts of colours that've been used. Some of the contrasts, perhaps...

Anybody else got any thoughts?

Thanks for the comments so far. When you figure out what it is that is wrong I'd be interested to know.

Anyway, a couple more idents:

Also, has anyone got any ideas how I could do a daytime version of this look. I want to keep the same layout, but change the theme of the idents from white & light to something else.

Your last couple of Idents are a bit squashed, othewise they'd look amazing

I suspect the idea behind these is better than the execution.

The jaggy fonts and garish colours put me off, but with a nicer font and toned-down versions of those colours, it would probably work.

Personally though I would hate the look on-screen, but I can see that it would be very 'marketable' and similar to a route I could imagine them taking in reality. A bit too 'Woman's Magazine'y for me though somehow.

Here are a few darker versions. I prefer the originals myself, but I thought I’d post these to see what you think of a different colour scheme.

The same layout, just this time the bars are black, with the main body of the frame coloured.

NO, don't use the black, they'd look like they were in the cinema ratio (whatever it is). Personally, I like the first ones, but maybe you could try to produce them all with a dark colour, maroon or dark blue would probably be best. I also think you should scrap that ECP- it doesn't look right at all. Perhaps it would look better if the bars were slightly thinner.

I hope these ideas make sense- though being my idea, it will probably make them look worse.

I think I've finally figured out what it is that isn't quite right (I think). The shadows on the text - they look a bit tacky.

Thanks for the additional comments. If anyone wants to work on the ideas I've presented feel free to do so. I think the software I have would limit what else I can do with them.
