Set and General Appearance (May 2012)

This site closed in March 2021 and is now a read-only archive
After being one of the early fans of the Sport Today new set, several weeks into the new venue and I can now say that I really dislike it.

I've now noticed what many people have already commented here. Along the lines of:

Whilst the general layout and geometry of the set is appealing, the lighting is abysmal. The set is indeed just far too dark. Also, whilst initially quite appealing, the clutter in the background is quite disruptive. The back banks of screens is one things, but that random corridor centre right of shot as we look at it is sometimes annoying.

I generally still prefer the music and branding to the two previous incarnations of the programme on BBC World. I think they could do with a bit more yellow accenting around the set, perhaps by mounting the two plasmas into illuminated yellow light boxes or some other such structure which balances out the otherwise dungeonesque darkness of the rest of it.

Oh. Listen to me. I've turned into Colin and Justin.
all new Phil
I actually think it looks really good. Maybe it's because I'm not a big fan of the BBC News look, but I always think whenever it appears how much smarter than the news set it looks. It looks smart, modern and clean I think.

Maybe I'd say that it doesn't look very sporty, but then again I can't think of a way of making it look more sporty without looking cheesy.
