I also recall that during the 1990's when NBC Super Channel was on air, you had the ITN World News at 5.30 am, presented by the very same presenter who was presenting the ITN Morning News on ITV at 5.30 am. Was the ITN World News pre-recorded at 4.45am or some other time in order to allow for the live ITN Morning News?

Wasn't the world news carried on ITV as well, as part of the Morning News? Or was it not shown on NBC Superchannel at the same time?

I never saw the Super Channel but AIUI the ITN World News (or ITN Super Channel News as it was originally) went out at 2200 CET. I'm fairly certain that's how it was from launch in 1987 but I've no idea if it persisted at that time? Was the ITN World News shown on ITV during the Morning News just a repeat of that airing? Or was it indeed a completely new recording? And did the World News air on the Super Channel more than once a day? Sadly, I've no idea.

ITN World News continued to air at 2200 CET right up until closure, and in the late 80's and early 90s, that bulletin went out as part of the hour long ITN Morning News. But by 1993, the ITN Morning News had been cut to 30 minutes and the ITN World News no longer aired during that programme.

In 1995, when I first came across NBC SuperChannel, there were 3 main bulletins and a number of additional updates. The bulletins aired at 0630 CET (0530 UK), 1900 CET (1800 UK) and 2200 CET (2100 UK). The main ITN World News team would handle 1900 and 2200 as well as the afternoon and evening updates, but the ITV overnight presenter would also handle the 0630 and the updates in the special European version of Today, that would air for 2 hours straight after.

Because the ITN Morning News and the morning edition of ITN World News would go out at exactly the same time, with the same anchor, I had to assume one wasn't live, and I guessed the World News would have been pre-recorded, along with the update that would air on Today. For a while they were in different studios, which made it look even more amazing, but later on they started to air from the same studio.

Hope this helps sort out the confusion.

Apparently there was a fire alarm during Tuesday's 5pm bulletin meaning the show had to be abandoned after 10 minutes. The fact that such a major TV Forum event such as this went unnoticed for this long tells us how well the show rates amongst us lot! Very Happy

Not directly about Five News, but the original 5 News theme is being used currently by CityNews Channel in Toronto as their Weather jingle. Channel can be watched online.

Bit of a mix up there, the closing music didn't play and the credits didn't appear on screen. Just a silent closing shot..

Caught that too, wasn't really a lot of time though, wonder if they would of actually had any credits to play anyway.

I caught 5 News at 5 today and I must say I like the way the production team have taken a leaf out of ITV News's book when it comes to the precom coming up sequence. Since 2009 ITV have started their coming up section with a drum-less bed which segues into a version of the music with a kick drum beat. 5 News seemed to do the same tonight - the kick drum bed only started with the appearance of the pictures, before which the lighter bed was played while Matt was saying "coming up on 5 News...". It works rather well imo.

How long has Sangeeta Kandola been doing news updates for Channel 5?

How long has Sangeeta Kandola been doing news updates for Channel 5?

I was just about to ask who it was as I didn't catch her name. I think it may be her first time.
