True, but even so in that time the other muxes (except ITV/C4 actually) have launched additional services and the BBC still has fewer TV channels on their mux than any other mux.

On the other hand, the BBC channels aren't a big mush of blur, tears and other compression artifacts.

It'll be on the red button I'm sure - well, except on Freeview if it clashes with play along In it to Win It, which ridiculously got priority over the snooker on Saturday night. Considering in the UK only the BBC and S4C have rights now (Setanta used to have rights, possibly blocking a BBC network airing) there is no reason it couldn't fill a Saturday afternoon.

When Setanta held the rights, the BBC only had rights in Wales, Setanta had the rights in the rest of the UK and Ireland.

AFAIK all of the Celtic Rugby broadcasters have the rights to show the final (I.e. both RTÉ and TG4 can show it Ireland and both the BBC and S4C can show it Wales). I'm just not sure that the BBC will be bothered showing it if, e.g., it is Leinster v Munster.

Just also to mention, saw some Super League (Castleford v Widnes) today - the scorebar is now down to actually smaller than Sky's regular size but is still down the bottom. Only wide enough to show the score, clock, and tackle count. Tended to expand to show stats very, very, often, though.

Filler programmes on standby for the Snooker - potentially the last frame of the final now, and two and a half hours of programme to go.

Edit: yup, last frame. Two hours, twenty minutes to fill!

Edit again: Off air with two hours, ten minutes left, so (different episodes on BBC2/HD) Coast comes to the rescue for 10 mins, then other fillers. Why they couldn't have done a bit more review for ten minutes I don't know, seemed strangely unprepared for a final programme which looked earlier in the day that could have finished almost as soon as it started.

I flicked through during BGT to see Ronnie midway through what would obviously be his final frame but was shocked to turn over not that long later and see it had ended and they'd squeezed in Coast. Why they couldn't continue through to 9pm god knows - must have been a very rushed ending.

Memorable final in the Europa League to mark Channel 5's last match (for now).

(and a farewell roundup at the end too)

As far as I can remember In It To Win It is a pointless play along game anyway as it doesn't keep a score, so you may have well as shouted out an answer at the screen.

The last (and only) time I played it, it did keep a score.

As Wales put out a highlights programme for Cardiff in the Championship play offs, could London, the Midlands and North West not have done the same?

Well, London had Late Kick Off on Monday night, maybe they showed it on there. I assume like every other midweek match there'll be highlights on the website. You never got much on ITV either. I do know that Yorkshire are opting out on Tuesday for League One highlights, what with Sheffield United and Huddersfield in them.

I presume that the MLS has abandoned central television arrangements. Tonight's Montreal v LA Galaxy match on ESPN is presented by KDOC LA a local California based station.

Yep - but the other muxes have also changed their transmission mode to make their signal less robust (they've changed the FEC). The COM muxes can decide to do this - they can trade off a reduction in viewers with an increase in income from channel operators. The PSB muxes (i.e. the BBC and ITV/C4) can't do this - they have a responsibility to provide a service to as large a population as possible...

And then there is the picture quality debate...

The secondary set at the BBC Sport Centre is looking excellent this afternoon for the Challenge Cup Rugby League - the match is being played in Perpignan so being anchored from Salford, with Final Score also going on.

Much better lighting and backgrounds than Match of the Day and the Olympic Football programmes in the last few weeks.

Sorry can't capture, but it'll be on iPlayer in a few hours.

Elsewhere, a good demonstration today of how Gillette Soccer Saturday/Special really does blow Final Score out of the water, at least for drama and entertainment value. I was watching Sky Sports News when Man City scored their 3rd goal, and Stelling and the pundits were almost jumping on the desk. I quickly flicked over to BBC One, where Gabby Logan and guests looked like they were watching an exciting game of indoor bowls.
