I've had an idea and it's up to you whether you think we can run with it.

As there isn't much variation in terms of regional TV anymore, I thought it would be a good idea to look at everything from student TV to online non-league football or anything else people can think of at an amateur or semi-professional level.

If there has been a decent effort with the sets, graphics, titles or anything presentation related or even a great presenter, I think we should highlight it.

There's the Young Turks, a liberal American politics show / polemic outlet, hosted by Cenk Uygur. Always seemed to make an effort despite it was at first a jumped up radio show with a webstream and highlights on YouTube.

Has now graduated to CurrentTV (USA).

Quays News seems to be a programme produced by students at the Media City UK campus of the University of Salford Manchester.

You can see their sets and an example of the programming from the new facilities below.

This local online TV news service, I hope is something we'll see more. It's a town of about 12,000 people and I don't think they've done a bad job.

Take a look at their daily updates.

We produce live news bulletins most days during term time. I believe the original intention was for it to air on Channel M but of course the channel has now shut down, so now it's streamed online and shown internally within MediaCity. All the bulletins are on the YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/QuaysNews. (If it wasn't clear already I am a broadcast student at Uni of Salford)

And interestingly you use the Old Calendar theme from just before they scrapped it in favour of the generic ITV theme. Good to hear it again.

How legal is that? Are rights required?

Music rights have always confused me. I doubt ITV are going to go out of their way to sue a little student television group but what is the theoretical legal grounds?

I doubt that they specifically searched out for 'Calendar theme music 2003-2004'. It's probably under a music library now.

I agree it's nice to hear it being used again - although I was never in the region I've always liked that theme tune and the titles they used with it. The set was a bit odd though.

The theme tune is indeed from our library music collection, which is fully licensed.
