As great as this set looks (and it really does look great!) I'm not sure having the sports presenter in a separate studio to the news team is a great idea - but then again I'm not sure having the sports news team in a separate city to the main news team is a great idea either. It'll be interesting to see how sports stories which make the main news agenda are handled going forward.

And on another note with this great new set up at Salford it baffles me either more how they axe the Sports News loop on the red button/online to be replaced by Football Forum. It's all under the guise of cost cutting but must surely cost more to be filming features with Dan Walker and guests rather than repackaging the sports news update from the news channel and updating every couple of hours as required.

I definitely agree though with the idea that they should make use of this facility for BBC Sport programmes - even without the Grandstand brand having a Sports News update within certain programming would work rather well - certainly within Final Score (which used to include other sports in the Grandstand days anyway, and still has other sports on the ticker). A bulletin before or after Football Focus would work too.

Katie Gornall on the :15 headlines. First look of her in the new studio and second presenter to grace it!

Really neat and clean transition from Salford to London and vice versa. No adverse time lags and really natural flow.

I like the new headline transition wipe too!

How does the handover happen? Does the sports presenter in SQ appear on the barcos in N6?

At quarter past the hour, it's just like it was before, so sports headlines straight after the news headlines. And hand back to London was done on the right hand side Barco.

There is the wide shot of the studio in salford with the presenter in N6 (out of vision) introducing the sport. Then it switches to a close up shot of the sport presenter who then introduces the sport with him/her from BBC Sport Centre

I think this is superb.

Sports News should always have been separate from actual news. It is, after all, Entertainment.

Branding it separately, and basing it in a completely separate building/city, gives it a completely independent feel which is exactly what it should have.

The Sport Centre set makes the News Studio look aweful, but that was expected, it will probably fit in better when the rest of News moves to BH.

One thing I cant understand is why there are 2 sets when there is only one gallery. How are they going to make use of both? - Both Channels will surely use the larger set if, based on the scheduling changes, their bulletins don't overlap.

Have to say, I really don't like the new branding for Sport Today. If they were really tying it in with BBC Sport brand, they should have done an endboard like Match of the Day etc.

I was expecting something more along these lines

Which font is wrong? Both the Sport Today "lozenge" and my mock use Gotham, as used on all the BBC Sport graphics. Confused

I don't think the wide shot will last. The Sport studio is gorgeous, and it's nice to show it off, but it interrupts the flow of the programme, and leaves no opportunity for interaction between the news presenters in London and the sports news presenter in Salford. It jars a little if the duo in London have just been chatting between themselves, then throw to Salford without so much as a hello.

Not that I'm expecting 'banter', as that would probably just be awkward nine times out of ten, but a quick reference to the top sports story from the London presenter or a simple hello would be nice.

No doubt thinks will change and evovle as time goes by. At the moment I imagine that both the team in London and Salford are getting used to things. Whilst testing was carried out in Salford I'm not sure how much testing would have been possible of linking to the sport from N6 and how that looks from the London end.
