Well what else could they do given the such short notice and the temporary nature of their stay at GIR? The only space available there is Studio 5 (5 News's original 1997 home) but that was mothballed when Setanta Sports News closed. They'll be using a combination of Studio 1 and PCR4 (the old ITV News Channel control room) until production moves to N&S. I doubt even the taxi fares for a few months will mount up to the same amount it would cost to convert Studio 5.
If it was mothballed, would it cost that much to use it again?
The taxi fares wouldn't be that much anyway, I doubt that many people would need to go there for a bulletin - the technical crew don't need to so just a programme editor and the presenter
And if ITN continue the pattern of having at least one correspondent in the studio instead of doing a pointless two way during the 5/6.30 bulletins.
Either way, it's not exactly ticking any environmental boxes. If Des used his brain, he'd kept Sky News on until the N&S studio was ready instead of this quick fix.

Not sure if this is of interest to anybody, but Sian Welby, who presents 5 Weather (normally, anyway), also presents some EA YouTube show, called PWNED... It's what her website says, at least...

It's a rather simplistic view to assume that every programme should be self-contained within one building. I know that when Channel 4 used to show Powerhouse in the days before News at Noon, crew would travel between GIR and Millbank. How's it any different from any large organisation that has multiple buildings across a city? I'm sure there are cases up and down the country of company employees travelling between sites on any given day. Getting on Channel 5/ITN's case isn't really that fair when the amount of carbon emissions will be a drop in the ocean compared to the rest the daily goings on in the UK. It's not like it's a permanent arrangement; it's only for a matter of months.

Apparently it's been showed on Information TV as well. She also reported from the Bafta's for an American film channel too. Not bad considering Sian was plucked from internet/student tv (as well as the well publicised part time job in a clothes shop) obscurity by Richard Desmond.

Simplistic yes, but a pointless move when you consider they already had an operation which worked perfectly fine at Sky which could've been kept on for a few more months at least. This is nothing about being practical, more that Richard Desmond doesn't want his company's money going to a organisation being part owned by Murdoch, which has led to this farcical situation. I'm sure ITN will do a great job from Monday, yet it does feel 'rushed' in comparison with previous hand overs.
That looks rather nice - and must surely be the first time we see the virtual version of a studio before a real version. Usually it's the other way round.
Considering talk earlier in the thread then of it returning to a 1997 style I wonder if when they move to N&S that "studio" will be open to the newsroom itself rather than self contained.
I'm fairly certain the actual studio will be self-contained with no visibility of the newsroom (which is quite small from what I've seen).
Re the titles, they're very blue, with swirling lines and drop-ins to allow images from the day's news footage (in much the way the 'hero panels' work on ITV News).
So they've virtually created barco-style cracks between the screens that don't even exist? Fab. It's almost as if they want to annoy Worzel on purpose
Did I hear my name uttered in of all threads... the channel 5 news thread.
Anyhow - looking at the set (albeit virtual one) it looks very nice.

The studio looks very nice actually, I hope the virtual and real sets aren't to different otherwise it's going to be a bit inconsistent. Also I hope the real set looks as good as the virtual one! But every time ITN get their hands on a news programme they insert the days news images or videos into the titles,ITV, Channel 4 and now 5, don't they have any other ideas for the programme titles?
On a different note, How many studios are there at Grays Inn Road? And who uses them?

At the moment, there are 4 active studios at ITN - Studios 1 and 2 are virtual (housing 5 News and ITV News respectively), Studio 4 is London Tonight (before that, the ITN News Channel) and Studio 6 is Channel 4 News. Studio 5 was the home of 5 News between 1997 and 2004 and was later used for Setanta Sports News. No Studio 3 exists, I'm assuming it did exist at some point or another back in the 1990s when ITN had even more programmes to produce than it does now. Otherwise the studio numbering would be a bit inconsistent.
