Midlands did have a split second of London on the opt back, but it appears that they had run out of holding shot anyway.

Interestingly Sunday Politics East appears to have comes from the Cambridge studio rather than Norwich - though it's not obvious. It appears they have a printed back drop behind the presenter to extend the space.

The Politics Show also used to use the Cambridge studio. I suspect this may be because as it's only used for the evening bulletins it's practical for them to use & rearrange the studio. Also the cameras in the Cambridge studio are remotely operated, so presumably require fewer staff.

It certainly wasn't a live background I can assure you of that ...

How did that actually happen? Laughing

Well that's certainly one way to get on TV. I can only assume that as well as the news background being superimposed onto the green screen an additional (live) studio camera output was also included by accident.

You get the feeling that the Sunday Politics is crap, and the set really is dire. Old Scottish set was far better than whats been set up from london,

Also not sure how they managed to do this 'supposedly live interview' with Andrew Neil at the end of the Andrew Marr Show this morning, which shows both Andrews in TC7: but with different images on the Barco screens on the left-hand-side of the studio in one of the shots of Andrew Marr.

Very well done, however they did it! If it was recorded beforehand, it certainly didn't seem like it when it was slotted in after the news bulletin and before the 'wash-up' chat before the end credits. Wink

There was even an audible echo of the "Thank you, Suzanna" from Andrew Marr on the other side of the studio as she finished her bulletin and handed back to him: so it's unclear which bit was actually recorded.

Looks pretty straightforward to me ... Marr set in one half of TC7, the Politics set in the other. Andrew Neil looks straight into one camera, they feed that feed into the monitor for Marr.

But in the last cap you can see the left hand side of the set with no Andrew Neil sitting there.

Similar sort of jiggary pokery happens on BBC World's The Hub frequently. Nik Gowing will often be standing at The Hub, interviewing a guest via split screen. Nik is looking into us via his camera, as is the guest he's interviewing. When in fact the guest is sat only three metres from him at ninety degrees orientation. To most viewers, they wouldn't even flinch. But to us in the know, it's freaky to see it and often the guest or Nik could be tempted to look away from the camera and look at the person being interviewed nearby, thus spoiling the illusion.

Clever stuff.

V easy.
Andrew Neil records his PTC and answer to 2nd Question at 0830 on the Sunday Politics right rostra.
Then Andrew Marr's Question and Eyeline were recorded at 0840 before Marr rehearses the top of the show - with a looking show of Andrew Neil in the plasma.
Then its all stitched together in the edit.
Andrew Marr then read into the trail after the news LIVE, and the 'Thank you Andrew Neil' was on the shot of him, before cutting to Marr for the LIVE end chat.
Simples.

How quickly can background be changed on sections of the Barco's?

Does anyone have a link to this bit on the iPlayer?

I'm glad you've posted those shots, because it's been bugging me for ages, there's something
odd about the way Marr's flat screen monitor is set up. Images on it are vertically squashed, when they cut between that and the same image directly it's obvious. It looks like a 16:9 so I assume someone has been (unnecessarily) fiddling with its settings ?
