Really? Those theme tunes were horrible, especially when you consider the ones they mangled to produce them. In this case:

That is the best news theme I know. Interesting to watch the invasion of the studio

Anyway, for me, the best tune was this, because each episode was built heavily on the tune.

The best theme tune ever?.... Ski Sunday

Not quite the broadcast version, I believe, but close enough:

And seeing as I've been harping on about this programme in other threads - this music brings back many childhood memories:

SG
SatGold
huckleberry finn

Hihgway to heaven

life and times of grizzly adams

Chips

Si-Co, thanks for posting Hill Street Blues. It was a really good theme. Shall we indulge in these as well?

L.A. Law and Miami Vice, plus a couple of other top tunes. And I mean TOP:

This is why children's television is in crisis, they need more theme tunes like: Jamie! Jamie!
Another great one was 999

Always loved Jamie. On the subject of 70s children's telly, this song has my name in it:

As news themes go, this is probably my favourite:

Mine too - if it's one of the things I remember as a young child, it's that piece of music. So authoritative compared to what we have now.

Authoritative news theme tunes, for better or worse, do seem to have mostly disappeared. But then again they were really just an 80's/90's thing, this is what ITN had as a theme in the 70's

Can't imagine that sort of thing being used today, not just for news but for any programme!

Back to Eldorado, the beginning of this video seems to have the Eldorado opening titles clean with the hold at the end and beginning:

Indeed, here's Bill Bailey's take on it!
