It settles it by saying "I'm right but let's agree to this middle ground statement which states I'm majority right even if you disagree with my 'opinion'", here's some more mocks. Did you know Sky used my mock logo for Challenge in their TV guide? They did, really!"
Even the initial post of his which sparked these some six additional pages which are only just about related to a pretty weak 75th anniversary celebration is almost enough to be called TVF flamebait given what it caused.
The 1991 globe was dated before it even debuted - because it's completely silent. BBC1 never had a jingle until the balloon idents launched. Most of the ITV regions had always had jingles, except I think Granada and Border. BBC2 actually started using them as well with it's 1991 idents, and obviously Channel 4 and the Sky channels also had jingles.

And?
What, I can't state an opinion? It's not like it was off topic (no more so than most of the rest of the thread anyway). Other people had earlier commented about dated graphics, such as the typeface used for the region names and signage and such in that era. I was just saying that IMHO, the BBC1 ident was dated for another reason.
Technically that doesn't make the globe dated, that makes the ident dated. I don't think the music (or lack of!) behind it was really the crux of the discussion.
Anyone catch Duncan's nice announcement at the close of Friday? He talked about the 75 years and the celebrations coming up at Ally Pally. "BBC One signing off from London". Will try and get a cap up.
