AFAIK the main MOTD programme is transmitted live.
Is Match of the Day live or pre-recorded?
A story broke around 10pm tonight about the FA investigating an alleged incident during the Liverpool v Man Utd game. Gary mentioned the story on tonight's MOTD around 11pm..
I always thought the show was recorded earlier in the evening..

I doubt there would be time for MOTD to be pre-recorded. It certainly used to be the case when tape was the medium of choice that that some of the highlights were still being edited when the programme went on air.

When the BBC Sport Editors blog used to be regularly updated, they did a blog about this...

I would think that nine times out of ten it's live, although there have been occasions recently when it's been pre-recorded, usually when there's been no 5.30 game. I'd have thought they'd have pre-recorded it when it was on Cup Final and Eurovison day when all the matches were 12.45 kick-offs and it was on at midnight. The one referred to in that blog, though, was at the end of the 2005/06 season when MOTD2 was scheduled at 10.30 after the snooker which turned out to be the longest final ever, and it didn't come on until 1am.
In his autobiography, Des Lynam said when he did they once did an experiment where they did the whole show as live at 7pm to prove they could do it, and then lobby the Beeb to put them on earlier. Though we know how successful an idea that was when ITV did it.
The midweek episodes are certainly live, of course. There was that one last Christmas where Gary had to start by apologising that they might not be able to show all the matches as there'd been a massive power cut, but they did manage to get them all out in the end.

Premier Sports is of course just Setanta in disguise.
I was wondering why NHL had suddenly appeared on Setanta Ireland. Started with Anaheim v San Jose last night. Ice hockey doesn't have a huge base here (outside of Belfast where by all accounts there is a reasonably supported ice hockey team) but if they were going for the UK rights it seems reasonable to use it to fill airtime on Setanta Ireland (they probably got the Irish rights thrown in for free).

ITV win Europa League rights, Channel 5 lose out ...
ITV has signed a deal to be the lead UK broadcaster of Uefa Europa League games in a three-year deal that will see the end of Channel 5's coverage of the event.
The UK's largest advertiser funded broadcaster has struck a deal to air the first- and second-pick Europa League games for the 2012/13 to 2014/15 seasons, with ESPN picking up the rights to the remainder of the matches.

JO
I'd have thought Channel 5 would have been keen to keep hold of that. Some matches might be on ITV 1 (depending on the side) I guess as Corrie is moving back to Wednesday.
The article says games apart the quarter finals up will be on ITV 4. But I find it hard to imagine if Man United ended up in the competition they wouldn’t find themselves on ITV 1, Liverpool might be quite the pull too.
