Not for fans of the Women's Football World Cup!

I wouldn't object if it was a popular sport, it clearly isn't, the vast swathes of empty seating on the terraces shown on ESPN with coverage of the new Women's PL is testament to that.

But the BBC has a public service duty. There can't be that many people who really want a second tennis choice anyway.

When it's Nadal on Centre and Federer on Court 1 it's more a case of personal preference rather than second choice. I do think in this case they'd have been justified in showing the Womens game delayed from 9pm or so.

Is there any chance of the BBC getting another Red Button slot on freeview again?

They don't even seem willing to discuss it, despite the obvious need. If there was the will they'd be the way, just as there was to get BBC Alba on air in Scotland (though it's a far from ideal solution). When you compare to what is on other muxes I'm sure they could find the space for an extra channel (the BBC have 7, the others have 8 or 9).

What really grates though is the BBC have aided Sky Sports getting on to DTT by renting out the space in pre-DSO areas that used to house the interactive streams to BT, with Arquiva providing the space on their muxes in post-DSO areas. If they can aid that sort of deal I'm sure they could have struck their own deal for at least one stream on another mux, or moving the radio channels to free up space on their own mux.

As for C4 - very surprised with Ortis Deley. I assumed it would be Rick Edwards for sure, and that the only reason he wouldn't get it would be if a more sporting name came into contention,. And I'm guessing the Usain Bolt ident will see the running track in the shape of a 4!

Today at Wimbledon advertised for 11.20pm tonight on BBC Two - presumably just in a half hour slot between Newsnight and the Women's World Cup highlights scheduled for 11.50pm.

So I think I'm right in saying that's 1/6 now in terms of a full length 8pm transmission.

Interesting to see that it's a lot bigger elsewhere in Europe - where it's on the major PSB channels.

Today at Wimbledon was pathetic tonight just being half an hour.

Well there is a rather unexpected problem to contend with at the moment on Centre Court - the sound of the deluge that's hitting the roof is so loud that the television viewer can hardly hear the sound of the ball hitting the racket, never mind the players themselves. In fact, the umpire is even having to shout to avoid being drowned out by the noise of the rain.

Very strange atmosphere!

I briefly lost BBC channels on DSAT, which I presume means it's raining rather a lot in W12 too!

Rain has stopped play at The Oval as well, so that makes sense! Beautiful afternoon here in Belfast though . . .

Anyway BBC Two, not for the first time this Wimbledon, left coverage at 1.55pm and are currently showing fillers until the start of CBBC, or until play resumes.

They do seem to be adding the fillers to the schedule in a rather optimistic fashion - at the moment, it's a 30 minute To Buy or Not To Buy followed by a 30 minute gap before Prank Patrol. (Would they be likely to have 30 minutes' play on BBC Two, or could we be looking at CBBC being shunted? The thunderstorm has just passed us by here in East London...)

It usually takes around 30 minutes after the rain ceases to get the players back on court, and then there's the warm up so I doubt they'd open for BBC Two again for the sake of 15 or 20 minutes play. And I doubt CBBC will be touched today considering its Blue Peter's last broadcast from TVC.

Mainly because they have shunted the remaining Ladies Quarter Final to the red button as they "are unable to go past 9pm this evening" (according to Sue).
