Looks like either another overrun or a very rushed ending to the F1 again today as the race was restarted towards the end.

EDIT: The BBC have put the/a world feed on the website (but not on press red for some reason). Have they done this before? I've never noticed it before.

It over-ran. EastEnders was supposed to be at 15:20 but instead was 15:35.

Points of View has been dropped from the schedule.

Not dropped, it seems it has been moved to tomorrow...

although my series link hasn't picked up on this yet.

Two radio mics/talkback devices ruined at the F1 today as both Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard ended up in the swimming pool. The stick mic got saved on each occasion but any other equipment must have been ruined.

Naughty 'series link'!

I put it back in manually & the series link popped up, so let's see if it will go back to Sunday for next week.

(Anyone who 'series links' noticed 'Newswatch' currently doesn't series link on either the Friday evening or the overnight showing? It's been like that for the past 2 weeks!)

Yes. I've seen it on at least two other occasions, so I'd guess it's been there since the beginning of the season.

Lots of complaints on twitter about this sort of thing on the BBC F1 coverage this morning thanks to their silly 4:3 safe graphics policy:

Compare RTL who are using widescreen graphics:

Interesting. If I were the Beeb, I'd take the 16:9 GFX feed, and feed the fast dwindling remaining analogue network with 16L12 (16:9 deep letterbox). I bet the number of complaints would be very small.

They'd also have to change their policy for DTT - which AFDs Sport as 12F12 active for centre-cut for 4:3 displays (though many displays display as 14L12 because of a mistake in an early AFD table in one of the DTGs publications ISTR) as well.

I doubt anything will change until analogue switch off is complete. Until then I expect all BBC Sport stuff will be 4:3 on analogue and 12F12 active on DTT. (There are also a few analogue transmitters likely to be fed via DSat in the interim - which may mean 14L12 output of all 16:9 content on them...)

I think if the BBC were able to split BBC One SD and BBC One HD resiliently, then there might have been scope for split feeds for the networks. However as BBC One SD will be a permanent down-convert of BBC One HD very soon (and currently HD shows on BBC One SD are already downconverts not split feeds), graphics on HD content have to follow SD safety requirements. (DOGs on digital networks are a slightly different case)

Can you please explain to me what AFD and 12F12 and 14L12 mean?
MR

12F12 = 4:3 material displayed in 4:3 aspect ratio
14L12 = 14:9 letterbox material displayed in 4:3 aspect ratio

AFD = Active Format Description, the code within the video that carries information about their aspect ratio and active picture characteristics.

Suggestion on Twitter that the BBC TWO schedule is to be disrupted by Andy Murray at Roland Garros later this afternoon

I asked Piers Newbury what it takes to get Murray on BBC1/2 earlier in the week and the reply was "not sure there's a rule for that but the final is definitely on BBC network TV. If he played Nadal in semis, probable." However, with his ankle injury, today's match may be Murray's last in this year's French Open.

A good call, it's not replacing anything particularly exciting really:
15:45 Flog It! (17:15 on BBC HD)
16:30 The Hairy Bikers' Food Tour Of Britain (rpt)
17:15 Cash In The Celebrity Attic (rpt)
18:00 Great British Menu (also HD)
19:00 The Story of Ireland (also HD)

...by which time it could possibly be all over so if it's not I'd expect programmes to just run late.

What they'll do with BBC HD, I don't know. Perhaps show what they were going to show anyway. The BBC don't appear to have HD rights to the French Open since they're not broadcasting the finals in HD.
