Compared to STV no broadcaster is anywhere near as local. The entire news bulletin comes from Aberdeen, and STV are going to make news in the central belt even more local.

The output in Scotland is poor, but that's what we have with 2 broadcasters.

Plus there a LIVE, not record Dundee opt

But still no opt at all for the Highlands (although I think it was sort of promised a year or so ago) and if you watch in the Tayside region only on freeview why not on satelite??

Yes they are going to make news in the central belt even more local but why not provide the highland opt? I am not anti stv but it does favour the central belt - that said I am delighted they have ditched plans for the nationwide programme.

I think there's an issue between STV and Sky on a few things, most likely cost.

They don't have +1 or HD on Sky or Freesat, but these are available on VM and Freeview. I think this will be resolved soon though.

I hope ITV and STV can produce some new Scottish dramas,,

Taggart has been dropped by ITV.

According to Broadcast, the channel has decided to end the crime drama after 28 years because the last series picked up relatively low ratings.

An ITV spokesperson confirmed the news and explained that the "significant" amount of money spent on Taggart will now be invested in new drama.

"Since it was first broadcast in 1983, Taggart has been one of ITV's most enduring dramas," the representative said. "But, reflecting the demands of our audience and as part of the ongoing creative renewal of the ITV1 schedule, our priority is to invest in new and original drama on the channel."

However, Taggart could continue to air in Scotland after the last series performed well for STV.

STV's chief executive Rob Woodward said that he is "pretty confident" about the show's future, adding: "Now ITV has come to a landing, it's up to us to decide how to take it forward. The latest series sold extremely well internationally, including in new territories like France and Germany. We're talking to other broadcasters and reviewing what the options are."

End of the road then.....shame I enjoyed Taggart....that said it has become poor of late....sad all the same as I don't see stv going it alone with this (unless they can trade off with the Aussie and Irish broadcasters that produced the imported dramas we have seen this last wee while).

Maybe they could even make something outside of Glasgow or Edinburgh?

Stuart MacBride's books are excellent - set in Aberdeen.

I am not getting my hopes up for the 50th. I would say that it might get and finally on the stv news at 6 (North Tonight) but we shall wait and see.

Stuart MacBride's books are, as you say, very good and it would make a good change to have the North featured in a drama??

I take it STV don't have the capital to continue Taggart on its own? I don't see why they couldn't if it pulls in the viewers in the regions.
