Playhouse Disney's replacement launched this morning and now broadcasts in widescreen! Disney Channel still does not for some reason, despite more programs available in widescreen on this channel.
It is ridiculous that any channel is allowed to broadcast widescreen material in a ratio other than 16:9 nowadays. There is absolutely no excuse for it.

Other than the fact the source may not be 16:9 and transmitting it in a 16:9 shell would be detrimental to quality...

But in Disney Channel's Case, majority of programming (and increasing) in available in widescreen due to the HD investment over in the states.

Not really; a large majority of the Disney programming filmed at Burbank is still SD.
Only the last series of Hannah Montana was filmed in HD, the latest episodes of Wizards of Waverley Place are HD, and Disney repeat the same older ones and hardly show newer programming.

Yes, that's true. They do show quite a lot of repeats from older series. Personally, Until Disney get there acts together, I'm gonna continue watching HD versions of programming on youtube
Personally, as a grown man, I wouldn't even want to to watch the Disney Channel programming, let alone the Disney Junior programming, so why would it care to me, or you? Unless you're younger than we think?
To give them credit, Disney Channel broadcasts in widescreen occasionally when there's a new movie on, and the Cinemagic channel is in widescreen on SD, and there is also an HD version.
Kids don't care that much about the aspect ratio, so why should the channels that just broadcast an automated loop of programming do so? The heart of the kid's channels died out years ago, and it's not coming back.

Don't Disney broadcast one of their channels (replaced Fox Kids?), in HD? And it isn't as popular, I'd assume.
If TV Newsroom is infact 7 years old, he's a dab hand at HTML, coding and running websites for his age!
Disney Cinemagic and XD are the HD offering's from Disney, strangely enough Disney Channel is an SD channel which offers Dolby Digital the only channel in the standard Sky mix that does this.
It's why I am slightly surprised he still watches those programmes
Has the fact he may be a parent who watches with his kids slipped under your judgemental radar? Or that he's come across the channel while surfing and something like the aspect ratio has registered on his TVForum-esque radar?
Not all of TVF's users are like Tumble Tower, you know.
