Roger, at risk of being heckled for thread-creep, thanks for the info about Moira. I found a way to listen to the show this morning. BBC iPlayer doesn't work for us here for some reason. But anyhow, managed to get the show this morning. BIG MOIRA was fabulous, as always.
Back on track - I didn't know that the BBC Tv weather presenters also did the weather on the radio? I always remembered that the newsreader would also read the weather.
I think the reason Chris Evans had more listeners than Sir Tel, is because of our Moira-- great asset to the show-- great personality as well.
For the longer radio weather forecasts, one of the weather presenters does it. Such bulletins that spring to mind:
>After You And Yours on Radio 4. ~12:57, weekdays
>Janice Long's Show, ~00:45 on Radio 2 weekdays-- she typically has a long gossip with forecaster too! Otherwise on Radio 2, it's the newsreader as you say.
> I believe Five Live in the early morning shows often features a forecaster
> Vernon Kay's Saturday morning Radio 1 show has a forecast from one of the telly presenters, plus he likes a gossip too (nearly always Alex Deakin or Matt Taylor though, his golfing pals!)
One of the telly weather forecasters does the Shipping Forecast these days, as I understand it.
