This time round, it looks like they just sent a camera guy round the corner with a camera (pretty sure it looks like filming around Deansgate to me Laughing ), reused some of their other aerial shots, blurred it then said 'done'.

The first short looks like the corner where The Printworks and Next face each other and the second one is Castlefield, which in a sense is a stonesthrow from Granada Studios.

The titles look nice though, they should look good in HD.

You can see Beetham Tower in the second shot, that can be seen from the set Laughing

I really like the first shot of Manchester, its something new for Corrie

They're a much needed update, and no doubt the interesting visual effect of a very sharp foreground against a blurred background will be effective in HD on a decent sized screen. I'm assuming these non-CGI shots will be easier/cheaper to replace if aspects of the street change markedly.

The shot from the Rovers shows the boarded up bar under the arches, which presumably can't stay like that forever, can it? Why don't Peter and 'R Leanne' open it up as a café, if they have to keep him away from booze? Wink

The new arrangement of the music is nice. Subtle enough to see the difference, but similar enough not to cause any real upset. The final caption with the programme title is very nice indeed!

Why so blurry? Do they want us to see it or not?

A modern café would be good, it wouldn't have worked as a bar

Bottles on shelves + Tram going overhead = Disaster

Granada aired them on the news tonight and took them on the street for opinion - and it was unanimous approval (well, what they showed was!). The only person to cast any doubt was William Roche, but that was kind of a back handed compliment about not liking change but thinking the new reflects the old rather well.

From Ian Wylies blog
He mentions the titles then this
"With yet more variations for ad breaks etc – some at night, some depicting different weather and seasons – also being filmed."

New opening titles now on the website:

I like them. More modern and they'll look great in HD.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Are you humming along to the theme tune there, Chie, to indicate your approval? Wink

Of course, it's fantastic. It's the best opening title sequence I've ever seen. The digital cataract effect is truly a groundbreaking development in visual creativity. And to think it was pioneered at Granada Studios - I mean, it's just astonishing. As for the music - well, my goodness, the melodic clunkiness is so...so...postmodern!

Harry Hill will have a field day with the cataracts!
