Point is that if Sky were to drop a service to permit a competitor to carry their sports services then surely they are in effect agreeing with the Ofcom instruction. Hence the bandwidth to carry SS1 and SS2 has, in my view, to come from elsewhere.

I don't know why people think Sky services will be dropped from Freeview to make capacity available for SS1 and SS2. Surely it will have to be found elsewhere, as it won't be Sky making these services available to viewers but a third party, and thus Sky capacity won't be used.

It all depends on the contract I suppose. In the early days of Top Up TV though when they had E4 it was C4 streaming it on their own space.

Teachers TV gets axe on Freeview (and other digital platforms). No date as to when it will actually go, but full report on broadcastnow website (subscription). Currently just two hours 4-6pm on Mux A/SDN, was originally on midnight to 6am, then was shunted to the late morning and then to its current position, at one point only for one hour...

Ed Balls did it, apparently:

In March 2010, Ed Balls, [then] Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families axed the broadcast deals in place with Freeview, Freesat, Sky Digital and Virgin Media in a bid to save the channel around £1m in carriage costs annually. Teachers TV will continue to broadcast exclusively online.

Part of savings drives in the DCSF, though now we're under a new government which already plans to not do a whole bunch of things the previous government were going to do, I suppose Teachers TV doesn't rank high in the pecking order.

Does Teachers TV share a stream with Gold and perhaps Home too - could everything on there be scrapped to make way for one of the Sky Sports channels?

Yes Gold, Home and Teachers TV share a stream on Multiplex A/SDN.

BT, today, in a slide for a forthcoming presentation on their website confirm that Sky Sports will be delivered via Freeview and not IPTV to BT Vision boxes. I know there was some debate on this. so it's good to have it clarified at last.

Personally I thought the IPTV route was a non starter but others didn't share this view.

DVB, any idea if it will be on the same multiplex that Absolute Radio is currently using or will it be a different one?
