Teachers TV gets axe on Freeview (and other digital platforms). No date as to when it will actually go, but full report on broadcastnow website (subscription). Currently just two hours 4-6pm on Mux A/SDN, was originally on midnight to 6am, then was shunted to the late morning and then to its current position, at one point only for one hour...
Ed Balls did it, apparently:
In March 2010, Ed Balls, [then] Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families axed the broadcast deals in place with Freeview, Freesat, Sky Digital and Virgin Media in a bid to save the channel around £1m in carriage costs annually. Teachers TV will continue to broadcast exclusively online.
Part of savings drives in the DCSF, though now we're under a new government which already plans to not do a whole bunch of things the previous government were going to do, I suppose Teachers TV doesn't rank high in the pecking order.
