Who said it was coming from London.

It's coming from Belfast - BBC Blackstaff Studios.

That's interesting - they've previously used BBC Sport's studio in Television Centre - and I'd heard they were again.

Likewise. If that's all true TVC could be their second studio, not a bad set up.

Or it could be that the London studio is an OS hub operation routing to Belfast - with presenters in Belfast?

That said the BBC Sport studio is a very versatile space and could look fantastic for an Election show - with great screens and a nice seated interview set-up, with scope for a desk, and the LED lighting could be used very well.

They're booked into using one of the BBCs Studios but what to do I'm not sure. I would expect possibly everything comes into Belfast and presentation goes out from there to RTE, as they'll probably be interested in using all the NI count feeds and going from there and can snoop on the gallery to take declarations.

Interestingly in NI we have:

BBC ONE - Election 2010 (Northern Ireland)
BBC TWO - Election 2010 (Networked Programme)
UTV - ITV's Election Programme - there is no NI results on UTV until 0925 the following morning.

I'm guessing the NI election programme will consist of National results too so, in theory, we'll have the same output on both channels for half an hour!

My understanding was that they were just using TC5 for its connectivity - I wasn't aware that they were using the studio floor.
RTE do have some fibres from London to Dublin, as well as from Belfast to Dublin. I suppose strictly speaking the two broadcasters aren't in competition, so RTE could be piggybacking on BBC OBs (in GB, at least)

What a surprise. Epic fail.

It could be considered good or bad..

Good because most people in NI will be more interested in what happens in the UK rather than NI.
Bad because people will probably be interested in the local results.

I suppose the local viewing figures will say the answer on Friday...

Does anyone remember the RTÉ setup in BBC Sport studio five years ago - how fresh it looked compared with their own shoddy output back in Dublin? Thankfully things have improved markedly since, but five years ago (if I remember correctly) Prime Time was still in 4:3, was making use of that abominable red graphics package and that hideously formless, bordering on makeshift, set. Indeed, it was something of a low point in its current affairs presentation.

Seeing Bryan Dobson and Mark Little back then in professional surroundings, in 16:9, with superb lighting, discreet mics, decent set and solid direction was something of a revelation! They looked so much more polished, not to mention more confident in their deliverance. It was the lighting that really sold it for me actually; finally RTÉ now have decent studio discussion lighting, but back in the day its shoddiness was perhaps the hallmark of the station's television operations.

Looking forward to this year's output.
