I guess now that pres is in a different building to the weather studios, having the weather presenter do a radio style forecast from the continuity booth is trickier than it once was. I guess even getting a feed from the weather centre's radio studio into pres would take a bit of coordination, assuming it was available.

Although was that ever a contingency? I don't ever remember the weather being done in audio only, the backup has been a read by the announcer for many years. The announcer always has a short weather script ready just in case

I have seen a clip in the past somewhere of Rob McElwee or Peter Cockroft doing a forecast out of vision due to a fault in the weather studio, so it has happened, but this was quite a few years ago. Can't seem to find the clip though.

That looks like he is in the/a weather studio and it's just the camera/chromakey which isn't working

I've certainly heard weather done out of vision, and it was implied that the forecaster had joined the announcer in pres. I think these were during power cuts, when pres was generator sustained.

Can't find any clips of it though.

Yep it was that one! - I was looking for it on YouTube and MHP - hadn't thought about TV Ark!

That weather slide NC1 used last night was slightly inappropriate if you ask me. Because it has been grabbed from an actual weather forecast, the temperatures and cloud levels are actually irrelevant and most probably inaccurate and misleading. I think it's also from the early days of WeatherScape and have Scotland angled well away... An empty map might be better ...!

That aside, whatever problems caused the lack of the forecast last night, it was well handled by Red Bee. At least the announcers still get a forecast to read in case of breakdowns.

A strange forecast at the end of the One today,

Matt Taylor was in the studio, and began the forecast in vision, although a big gap in the barco directly behind him was visible. The forecast continued with him out of vision and graphics direct from the Weather Centre (?), with him appearing again at the end to hand back to Sophie.

Sounds like they decided to cut to computer directly to air rather than take it via the Barco because the gap looked poor. AFAIK N6 and TC7 have their own computers running the weather software rather than tying up a weather studio.

Didn't look as bad as when the gap was there the other week - but looks as though they tried to move the feed out of the normal grey frame over to the right of the Barco's as far as they could.

This was in N6 so why couldn't they put the weather on the side screen and have the cameras positioned like a sport report?

The angles are awkward on the sport, I doubt you'd be able to see much on the screen.

Also bear in mind how far in front of the screen the weather presenters stand, it looks like everything is set up very precisely and moving it wouldn't be a trivial thing to do.

Using the weather studio and putting the weather on the side wall like any other outside source would probably have been a better idea!

ISTR that's what they used to do back before N6 was all Barco screened, the weather on the one was in the weather studio and on the six it was in studio.
