I see they've started using a new wide shot at the start of the 6.01. Its nice in that is makes the studio look big. It's done quite well really - the ordinary Joe Bloggs wouldn't be able to tell that its half CG. The fake cameras even have blinking lights on them - quite well done. The RTE NEWS | SIX ONE looks terrible on the floor though and I think it ruins the whole effect - its WAY too 1990s. Get rid of it and the shot wouldn't look half bad. I wonder if its shot using the overhead rail camera or is it shot using a tall ped?

But why did they bother doing that? There wasn't much wrong with the way they had it...

They tried to use this shot at 6:37 this evening but instead the graphic didn't work and we got to see what the studio looks like for real...did anyone catch it?

Without the CG and all that, the studio is quite small.

RTE have today officially confirmed today that Washington Correspondent Charlie Bird will return back to Dublin
after only completing half of his 2 year contract. He will return to his previous role as Chief News Correspondent. http://www.rte.ie/arts/2010/0202/birdc.html
I wonder who will be in the running to succeed him?

Awful decision to send him over there in the first place. Frankly the documentary with him in it for the last two weeks showed how irrelevant the RTE Washington correspondent is. Hopefully no one replaces him.

Could Robert Shortt replace him for the next 2 years after not getting economics editor he hasn't been doing much reporting recently.

If he thinks he can just walk back into RTE, I think he'll be surprised.

The thing is, he can just walk back into RTÉ. He's on a career break and (RTÉ having originally been created out of part of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, and thus having inheirted a lot of civil service policies and traditions) is legally entitled to a job with RTÉ once its over.

Note though, that's A job with RTÉ. Definitely not Economics Editor and not necessarily even an on-camera role. When Sean Duignan returned from being Government Press Secretary, he was in an off-screen role for years before he was finally given The Week in Politics job (by which time he was preparing to retire anyway.)

Well they could get rid of him to Washington, unless they think he'll start telling the Republicans how to run the World economy
